Most times whenever I look at the York Station webcam there is a parked Class 37. Can anyone say which it is, why it's nearly always there, and basically when it does move is it used for a specific purpose or just for whatever is required? Thank you.

There have been several locos there over the past months when I have dropped in on the webcam for a look. At one point there were two 37s, there has been a 68, and I think maybe a 47 or 57.

As far as I'm aware it's a 'Thunderbird' loco, i.e. to rescue stranded trains.
I am not sure it is.

The DRS ones tend to have come off services moving wagons from Doncaster to Holgate or off RHTT
The West Coast ones tend to be for charters/shunting charters

it is the only "free" loco stabling location in the area.

No it's not a thunderbird, used on works services when required. Has been stabled there now for several days l believe.

The Class 37 gen site shows 37422 working 6Z20 0958 York Thrall Europa - Doncaster Up Decoy and 6X20 1340 Doncaster Up Decoy - York Thrall Europa on the 10th. But it has been loitering around York for a while now.

The loco is 37422. The parcel sidings is where DRS operate out of for the North East Region. Loco remains there for SCO trippers/Driver Training etc.

Just watching the York Railcam and it's apparently due to leave around 09:04 this morning: 042P 0904 York to Crewe Gresty Bridge (Drs)

[edit] apparently not, by the looks of it
