Unless one lives in a £1m apartment within walking distance of these two depots (unlikely!) driving your private car is the only option if your turn starts/finishes when public transport isn't running (e.g. 0330 or 0230).

This is London we're talking about, there is a fairly comprehensive 24 hour bus network. Neither London Bridge nor Victoria are deprived of public transport at night.

Having thrown my share of drunks off of night buses it's not a mode of transport I would recommend! A zone 4/5 bus journey to Victoria would take forever, hence my question about private parking. Helpfully answered by 'A-driver'.

Although parking is allowed you have to ascertain a permit which at the moment are like the proverbial hens teeth

I have a serious question about the inner London depots - specifically Victoria and London Bridge.

Sorry but this is nonsense. I live within 4 miles of London Bridge so it's easily cycling distance, even walking if you can keep a good pace up. As someone else has already mentioned, plenty of nightbuses too. If possibility of a few drunks puts you off I'd wonder if you're cut out for finishing work late in Central London at all.

I pay £57 per week in rent btw.

My application has gone in. Fingers crossed. The job advert says London depots but on the application there is an attachment with the job description (dated 2005!) Mentioning Selhurst. Is the job genuinely for ALL London depots? I now have a full set of passes under both old and new schemes so should I straight through to DM? I have emailed and left messages with HR but have not had any response so am unsure where exactly I will fit in the recruitment process. Thanks for any help.

Well if you live within 4 miles of London Bridge I suspect it is "easily cycling distance", but then not everyone lives exactly where you do, do they  You may pay £57 p/w in rent, but I'll stick with my own house, thanks.

Your statement "I'd wonder if you're cut out for finishing work late in Central London at all" is a trifle patronising and ill informed. I've locked up a fair few of those drunks and other ne'er-do-wells in a professional capacity, so I think I know what I'm talking about, if its all the same to you. Enquiring about transport options is a pretty sensible thing to do before applying.

I noticed that too. Im presuming the description is an old document.

How did you get on with the application?

One of the questions is really badly worded: "Please give an example of when you have developed your abilities to improve yourself."

It almost sounds like an oxymoron. I'm guessing it's possibly asking about a training course you have undertaken to improve your own performance in the workplace?

Well Vicpaul 90 drivers is quite impressive. Is that expansion or drivers retiring/moving to country depots?

Alright Mr Angry, questions are allowed! Having thrown my share of drunks off of night buses it's not a mode of transport I would recommend! A zone 4/5 bus journey to Victoria would take forever, hence my question about private parking. Helpfully answered by 'A-driver'.

You're welcome :). I've been a night bus driver in London and use night buses several times a week. The greater majority of journeys pass without incident.

I understand that many people have a fear of travelling on buses - I've travelled on them all my life and have been on every N prefixed route in London, to the point where I was going to blog about my experiences. I find that drunken people aren't a threat unless someone rubs them up the wrong way. In any case, many night buses are very quiet, especially on weeknights where passengers are mainly shift workers, with a few revellers who are usually close to nodding off. I've kept myself to myself and not once come to grief on any night buses.

To that end, I'd deem the exclusion of night buses as "public transport" to be irrational. If you do have any questions about journeys on buses at night then I'm happy to help if I can.

For those who haven't noticed, Southern have sneakily moved the closing date forward from 20/02 to 12/02 at 2345.

I probably won't bother now as only finished writing out half of the competency examples and am not going to submit crap answers for the sake of it.

Bit naughty moving the goal posts whilst the advert is live, but there you go.

REALLY? that is a bit naughty, but i was wondering why the vacancy was up for so long if they only want 90 candidates

I am glad I got the application in last night now. Its not uncommon to close the process early & I did think 20/2 was quite a long window. Does anyone else think they will prioritise those with a full set of passes or will we have to wait until all the others have completed their psychometric tests?

i am wondering that too, surely if our information on how we did on the tests are up already we should hear soon, but we probably won't.

Typical !!!

I rushed it the other night and submitted an application anyway. It wasn't my best quality but will have the hump if I get sifted because of their technical gremlins!

Word on the grapevine is that Brighton had 1200 applications and that closed 2 weeks before the London one did so it could be a while to sort through all those applications. Patience will key it seems

Has anyone heard anything on the London ones? Is it possible to keep the Brighton & London posts on seperate threads?
