Is this route still operating? A recent map showed that the Hamburg Malmö sleeper uses it and Google Maps still shows the tracks there.
Interesting, is this crossing also used by freight to Sweden from Germany the rest of the year? The Berlin Malmö service is summer only and should run again this year.
No all freight trains stopped using this ferry back in 2014. It is only the Transdev Snalltaget passenger trains that still uses it now. However freight trains do still use the other ferry between Rostock (Germany) and Trelleborg (Sweden) currently.
So only 3 trains in each direction. Daily is Berlin -Hamburg - Copenhagen - Malmö. Depature is 20.38 and arrival at 7.26.
From Malmö 21.13 and with a change in Copenhagen to a bus arrival in Berlin 6.40.
Advance should be in the price.
4 hours and 6 hours respectively. The Sassnitz route is also seasonal, and the number of ferries on the route was halved a few years back, which is why the night train sits around en route for hours.Sassnitz to Trelleborg seems slightly shorter than Rostock to Trelleborg which i imagine is why the passenger trains use the Sassnitz ferry and the freight trains use the Rostock ferry.
Historically that was Mukran, and the Trelleborg ships left from Sassnitz Haven (very steeply graded!). The terminal was moved to Mukran in the 1990s IIRC.I always believed that Sassnitz is solely for freight to Russia.
