Thanks for all info, I’m going to read all week and then sit it on Saturday I think. So hard to prepare.....

Snow hill

I don't even know what is relevant to read with thi, and heard so many conflicting things. And the fact you have to spit out a blagged up answer in 2 minutes seems totally counter to the actual role, that being a safety critical role which requires precision and accuracy. But there you go, guess they have to whittle down somehow.

I found out some more information not like it is much use but, if you click on hiring process on the wmt website, the video ( stage 3 ) says its competence based questions. Guess we shall see.

Tbh I did a different online interview the other day for hmrc, was 3 questions , 1 min to think and 3 mins to answer, tough questions aswel and when your on the spot you willl be amazed on how much you can actually say in 2-3 mins.
I recorded my self on my phone on video just answering a random question for practice , try it im sure you will say everything in 2 mins IF thats the case of getting 2 could be 3 :p

Is a great way to see if you can think and communicate clearly and precisely in a pressured and time critical situation.
It’s exactly what the role requires. Your right about it needing precision and accuracy but the high pay is for doing that under pressure with possibly very little time to think.

In my previous job int he miltary operating aircraft I was always told if your feeling the pressure you have not planned and prepared properly. The role is completely different pressure than what this presents, this is the pressure of blagging. Not professional standards.
At the end of the day that’s what it’s there for if you like it or not.
How would you suppose they recreate thinking on your feet during an interview? Definitely not by giving you the questions to an interview in advance?!
I’m really not sure any amount of planning is going to stop you feeling pressure if your aircraft or train is in an accident etc. This isn’t about basic professional standards, they are expected as the absolute bare minimum as they should be in every job.

Achieves whittling down the number of candidates. Be hard to give you all much longer than a few minutes per question as there is so many people after the job they’d never get through all the videos.
Anyway it doesn’t really matter how either of us see it I suppose, as it’s just another step that has to be completed. I’m guessing they brought it in this year due to Covid as we never had to do a video interview.
Hopefully you’ll do well and I wish you the best of luck through the rest of the process.

You say a good sales man, ironically before i just got made redundant i was a sales and marketing manager and believe me when i say this, it does not give me an advantage as i can sell ice to an eskimo but struggle to sell my self ;p Think i'm doing mine this Tuesday so I can at least tell you the format.
just remember it's always using STAR technique tbh

The guy above says it is counter productive on them giving you the questions, but HMRC told me what 3 competency they were assessing ( now this could still be a million of different questions ) and believe me it still did not help much.

One thing ive learned from my interviews is do not prepare all you do is stress yourself out, remember the basics like what you know about them and research the role but the rest dont worry ;p

OK the format would be helpful Thankyou. And your advice is spot on for sure. I think I am just annoyed at what I view as a HR process which is uderminig and not reflective of a safety critical role. I can't explain my emergency situation which was complex and serious in a 2 minute sound bite, Im not even sure I want to.

Anyway, I'v changed my mind on it all tonight, I'm just going to give stabndard text book responses and play the tick box game.

A word of warning for everyone though....if you don't know, the app they use is not great, if you use your phone or ipad to do it make sure you block calls becasue if calls come in on it the app will end the question and submit, not great.

Interesting! I'm preparing as if it's the final interview then that should cover me for all eventualities, except being like a startled rabbit in headlights. Oh well, they either like me or they don't, c'est la vie :)

Hi all,

I had the ‘still under consideration’ email and haven’t heard anything since.
I know other people that applied that have had the video interview invite emails and they definitely both applied for the same depot that I did.
Very strange.
Did you get a text message

Hey guys do any of you have a link for the job description, was such a long time i applied I cant find it anywhere in my emails etc?

Has anyone who has recently had an invite for the video interview put down for New Street?

I've competed the video interview yesterday. I will not say what the questions are as I will not give others an advantage over me when I went into blind. All i will say is i didn't need any of my prep regarding the company.

Thanks Ben. Just wondering did the questions appear on the screen or was it someone that had pre-recorded them asking, before you have the ten seconds to think?

Well done Ben, you're more brave than I am. I'll probably wait until last minute before sitting it! I understand you're not going to tell us all what you were asked but do you think you could confirm whether you were asked anything along the lines of what questions were asked on the original application form?

Best of luck regardless x

hmmm jeez so its like a robot asking the questions u know when you use siri on your phone haha you can also see the question in a text. So siri asks you the question then you have 10 secs.

Honestly though I can guarantee it is not what your expecting... so put the text books down and get off google don't fill your head with info :)
and to the application part bit no :) but then again I don't remember what was on the application form :P

I panic in interviews and it's not that bad at all

Wow intriguing, I'm guessing it's not railway specific questions then?

Thanks for all your input so far.
