That’s a lovely thing.OK,
My second steam loco for 2nd. I once had a large steam fleet but alas, all had to go as none were suitable for DCC conversion! My only survivor is a Hornby-Dublo.
That looks like a lovely example of a brilliant diesel there I've got a Mainline Class 45 which I'd like to convert to DCC at some point so hearing that it's fairly easy to do is nice.6th is low power type 4 day!
A Mainline class 42. This needed new gears from Ultrascale and a full service to DCC convert. Unlike their steam locos, Mainline diesels are fairly easy to convert

I also have a DC Joueff class 40 that's not worth doing, painted as 40106 in Green.
A few years back old Mainline diesels were worthless, but now you can get the spares, their smooth running motors are a bonus. I admit I didn't do mine myself as it needed gears and a full strip down service, but the result is worth it.That looks like a lovely example of a brilliant diesel there I've got a Mainline Class 45 which I'd like to convert to DCC at some point so hearing that it's fairly easy to do is nice.
The past few days of my advent calendar have all been merged into one post, annoyingly...

I just saw that but I’ve replied in that thread now if you want to post a new one?The past few days of my advent calendar have all been merged into one post, annoyingly...

My engine seems to be alright mechanically, but it is missing two traction tyres. Out of the eight axles it has, only two are powered (both on one bogie) and without the traction tyres it can't pull the skin off a rice pudding! I'll have a proper look at it at some point.A few years back old Mainline diesels were worthless, but now you can get the spares, their smooth running motors are a bonus. Thanks for the kind message - it's nice to know people are enjoying what I've done. Thanks again (to @reddragon as well) for letting me make an un-merged postI just saw that but I’ve replied in that thread now if you want to post a new one?
I've never seen much of the Lima HSTs but that photo is making me want to try and find one - it looks fairly detailed (with the cover bit over the exhaust and some detail differences compared to my Hornby powercars). I've also been looking for a long time for a reasonably-priced pair of Hornby GWR powercars; I think I might try and find the train set version with the old lighting configuration and then paint the front to make it look like the ones in the photo you've attached. I've seen it done so it should be a case of a steady hand and good paintbrush!Looks like I've been bumped to my own thread! Probably a good idea @Cowley.
OK day 7 is HST day!
My old Lima HST was a successful DCC conversion. I have a prototypical 7 Mk3s in this set

This year, after searching hard I managed to source a new GWR HST pair to make a 4 car Castle set. A lot of searching & bargaining to get a good deal, best achieved mid month before payday when sellers need the £££
I fitted twin TTS sound on this one. Whilst the sounds are good, the speakers are awful in particular the tinny horn sound! I will in time get some decent speakers and make the change.

I also have one remaining old vintage Hornby power car used for spares for my 24/25 - a Christmas tree loco!

Ah OK - I'd always assumed the Hornby Railroad HST was the old Hornby Railways one. That's quite interesting. The Lima power car became the Hornby railroad power car with a Hornby motor instead
The old Hornby ones, like those I gave you are not very accurate at all. Run OK, can pull 1 coach + dummy whereas the Lima pulls 4 + dummyAh OK - I'd always assumed the Hornby Railroad HST was the old Hornby Railways one. That's quite interesting.

That's kind of what I thought when I saw that Lima one; I've got one powercar with a motor and it can just about do two old Mk3s and two new GWR ones, but that's it. It struggles quite a bit when the train is on the superelevated curves. The old Hornby ones, like those I gave you are not very accurate at all. I suppose you could double up the motors in it quite easily, or is there no room behind the cab? That's kind of what I thought when I saw that Lima one; I've got one powercar with a motor and it can just about do two old Mk3s and two new GWR ones, but that's it. I don't think I could because the front bit of the front bogie sits under the cab - although I'm definitely not experienced with this kind of thing so it may well be possible and I just don't know a way of making it work yetI suppose you could double up the motors in it quite easily, or is there no room behind the cab?

Around the front third of the front bogie on the HST sits under the cab so I don't think the motor would fit. I expect someone could probably work out a way of fitting a more modern motor into the centre of the powercar to power the front bogie. Its easy on the old 25/29 etc, you simply unclip the trailer bogie, cut out the infill if there, connect the wire to the motor & put it in, thats it!
The HST might have a space issue over the cab?
You almost got the same HST fleet as I have for my GWR sets.Looks like I've been bumped to my own thread! Probably a good idea @Cowley.

The Lima models are fairly detailed, certainly on the roof and the bogies. The motored one that I have can easily pull a 2+6 rake so if you a looking for a 2+4 then this will not be a problem but I'm not sure about the Hornby train set version.I've never seen much of the Lima HSTs but that photo is making me want to try and find one - it looks fairly detailed (with the cover bit over the exhaust and some detail differences compared to my Hornby powercars). Beyond my pay grade I’m afraid @reddragon.@Cowley - can you get that daft annoying feature removed if posted on another day?
They’re both very good looking models aren’t they.
I’d only recently heard of those stay alive capacitors. Are they easy to fit?
