Out of interest, dose anyone have any photos parcels cupboard and why it has been retained on the 158 units?
It also seems a bit strange that the blue sliverlink wall carpet has been retained on some 150/1 units it must be fairly noticeable and unpleasant sight for commuters.

I wonder when Northerns remaining units in works for refurb will return.
I have 156447 Eastleigh 18th Oct , 158791 Crewe 3rdJan and 158861 Crewe 26thJan.
How long before they will have to start again. Must be around 4 years since the first was done.
Other units I have in works are 158853 Bristol unknown reason 2nd Jan and 195021 at CAF after collision at depot when new.

Anyone know which 156's are coming to Northern shortly from EMR? I've heard a number of 15 being bandied around but unconfirmed - assume this will see all of the remaining 153's going. They're actually part of the Northern fleet now but leased back to EMR for now...
Just when the fleet was almost looking uniform some more turn up to add to the list :)

EDIT:
I'm told it's 156401/403/404/413-415/902/907/909/912/916-919/922 that are for Northern.

Why are they coming to northern?
I thought the 769s would replace the 153s and northern already have 3 more 2 car 150s coming from GWR at some point too?

Thanks.
Anyone know why already refurbished 158s like 853 are returning briefly to Bristol works. Warrenty or digital mods perhaps.
K
I assume it's warranty work as the digital mods are done at Northern depots, I think most so far except possibly 156451 have been done at Newton Heath.

See attached for both. I think the lack of removal is due to the cost, in the case of the parcels cupboard in taking it out and for the wall carpet the cost of new panels.

From what I recall from when the carpet has had tears in it, it's just sheet steel behind it, so they could remove the carpet and paint that.

The carpet will get removed sooner or later. Not sure there's much point in removing the parcel cupboard, it's a decent place to put a bike out the way.

I believe some of the digital mods (3 car 158s I think?) have been done at Holbeck.

The parcel cupboard greatly restricts and the size and quantity of bikes that can be carried, hence most of the other 158 operators removing it.

Those 3 GWR 150s won’t be coming up, or they weren’t before COVID as GWRs franchise was extended.

It still makes a good space to store luggage, prams folded down etc.

It can still be used for any of that with the wall removed. That's why it was done. I would call myself an expert at piling massive amounts of luggage safely into 15x units
