If Martinsh is right about Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane can I move HeyJude into the main list?

I believe Engelbert Humperdink kept the Beatles off No.1 with Release Me.

All you need is love.
Day Tripper.
Eleanor Rigby.
Hello Goodbye.
Paperback Writer.

Correct with Engelbert

Paperback Writer is right, Day Tripper half a mark as it was a double A side and I’d like both songs. Others aren’t right

Penny Lane?

Can I summarise where I think we are: (I'm not claiming all of these as my answers :) )

Correct:

Ticket to Ride
Paperback Writer
We can work it out was double A side with Day Tripper.
Help!

Not Correct:

She Loves You
Strawberry Fields
I want to hold your hand
Penny Lane
Hey Jude
All you need is love.
I want to hold your hand
Yesterday
Please, please me
Eleanor Rigby.
Hello Goodbye.
Tax man

In title: A Hard Day’s Night in July 1964 through to Yellow Submarine / Eleanor Rigby
No 2 - Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields

New guess - I am a Walrus?

I think your summary of the situation is spot on, but sadly your latest guess at the missing song isn’t

What a good question - lots is the answer but I'll guess at 750.

I'll go lower - say 600.

But It's a Long And Winding Road that leads to an Open Floor anyway - so 444045 can take it

The answer is 375, a bit lower than I expected but still averaging roughly 3 months per top 40 single

So, @martinsh is the winner but appears to have magnanimously stepped aside already

I’ll go 300.

If only you’d been in the tie break, you’d have won it
