Hello fellow RailUKaboos. Since there isn't any threads to my knowledge talking about Anime or Manga, I decided to create one. Here you can discuss existing and upcoming media. Webcomics are allowed as well but remember to follow the rules of the forum (we know how raunchy certain genres can get o_O).

I'll kick us off by posting the latest trailer for the first part of the final Free! movie.

It's great to see KyoAni recovering from their devastating arson attack by going from strength to strength, although this final Free! film appears to be cursed, as now Makoto's VA has been allegedly caught having an affair and is now on a break suffering from what can only be described as health problems. Not good, as they say.

The voice actor for Daisuke Jigen from Lupin III, Kiyoshi Kobayashi, is to retire from the role following the first episode of Part 6.
The official website for the Lupin the 3rd Part 6 television anime series confirmed on Tuesday that long-time veteran voice actor Kiyoshi Kobayashi is retiring from the Daisuke Jigen role. The anime's "Episode 0," titled "Jidai" (Historical Period) features his last appearance as the character. The episode will serve as the anime's first episode on October 6. Akio Ohtsuka will replace Kobayashi in all the other episodes of the anime. Kobayashi is the only remaining original first-generation cast member in the Lupin III franchise, and had been voicing Jigen since 1969.

Long time Anime fan here. I was trying to find my Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend premiere pass to post but its lost to the ether. :/

Not sure where I am currently or where it all started but I remember when Manga Entertainment was formed and I went to some of their premieres; Akira, being the most notable premiere I attended. Generally I am currently devouring various Anime on Netflix. There is a good selection and some of their origionals have been decent.

Favorite Anime in recent years : One Punch Man
Favorite Anime game : Final Fantasy - Yeah I know thats a cop out but I've played it since the Gameboy days..
Anime secret shame : I really liked the Airbender movie.
Anime/Live action hidden gem : Alice in Borderlands

Finger on the pulse..

Sony has just bought Crunchyroll - Gonna be interesting to see what they do with it.
Avatar The Last Airbender - Netflix live action series.

I used to watch the Miyazaki season on Film4 when I was young, later watching the odd thing such as Initial D but really got into it after watching Wangan Midnight.

Further their grip on the market at the cost of the fans. Also more stuff like the Dragon Maid dub.
Avatar The Last Airbender - Netflix live action series.
Excuse my dry heaving.

I had a look at this thread to see if it would help me understand what my grandkids are talking about - but I am not much the wiser! Could somebody post a brief glossary or translation aid for the uninitiated?

Manga - Comic
Anime - Animation

Typically in the Japanese style.

Also considered to be more on the adult side because of their themes and often violent nature. It has evolved a lot over the years and you can get more 'western style anime' and as it has permeated modern pop culture there is far more choice than there has ever been. If you look at my Star Wars link you can see the style change from standard Sci-Fi to 'Anime'

Think 'Pokemon' or 'Yu-Gi-Oh' when referring to Anime and you wouldn't be far wrong. Both were/are long running Anime series' 'Ghost in the shell' might also help you think 'Anime' (2017 Scarlet Johansson movie)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1219827/ (Ghost in the Shell)

(Pokemon)

https://www.yugioh-card.com/uk/ (Fun to play card game too)

Anime Characters are also huge in the world of Cosplay. The entire world of Anime/Manga is pretty extensive. Comics, Card games, Movies, JRPGs... etc. If I'm honest its probably not the most ethnically diverse and a touch mysoginistic but it's been pushed to evolve as it becomes more mainstream.

It’s 4:30am and I’m glad I found this thread because it reminds me of something funny. Someone who works at my local station told me to stop asking him about trains and watch My Hero Academia instead and the first episode opens with a battle on the railway with them knocking an electrification mast over so I went back and showed him and made it about trains. Obviously I needed to ask him about them anyway know what platform the next one was leaving from. Does daodao still think you’re a Nazi?

Trying to find out about Free - The Final Stroke has been a PITA. I just want to know if ikuya and his incredibly annoying 4 eyed friend die in hole and if Rin, Nagisa and Rei get actual roles this time.

I watched the 2018 film Mirai today. The main character's tantrums got grating after a while (although I suspect that was intentional) but it does have some eye candy for us train nerds (including a lot of advertising for Tomy's PlaRail), including an act set entirely in a retro-futuristic Tokyo Station, complete with neo classical styling.

I'm currently most of my way through Cowboy Bebop. I can see what all the fuss is about, it's brilliant!

On another note, Lupin Part 1 has now received an official English dub, leaving Part 3 the only completed series not official translated to English in any capacity.

I couldn't get past the first episode. My Son just finished the live action series too.

Hopefully gonna sit down and watch Howl's Moving Castle tomorrow

It was (and still is) very avant garde. It managed to touch upon just about every genre imaginable and do a good job of it. I do understand that it wouldn't be for everyone as it can be incredibly violent at times.

I really need to watch The Wind Rises (about the guy who designed the Mitsubishi Zero) at some point. Bonus is that Hidekai Anno voices the guy.
Anyone else seen Detective Conan?
I've seen half of the one episode that nearly has a 100 Series Shinkansen blown up (as a homage to The Bullet Train) and a few clips from the Lupin The Third crossovers.

I just finished the first season of Attack On Titan and the titans remind me a lot of the giant warriors from Nausicaa of the valley of the wind (I’ve only got as far as Laputa Castle In The Sky with watching Ghibli) and because of the long hiatus before season 2 decided to watch Attack On Titan Junior High which is just ridiculous.
Anyone else seen Detective Conan?
When I went on holiday (many years ago now Pre-covid) I saw a trailer for it on a Spanish channel that was about to start showing it and I wanted to watch it but unfortunately it didn’t start before I went home.

I watched this. It was a very excellent story but didn't do the best job at staying historically accurate (don't go into it expecting a biopic). Nausicaa next.

I managed to complete the episode and watch the 2nd Lupin crossover. I preferred the crossover so I think I'll be sticking to Lupin in future, although the continuing side story about Conan finding his attackers is interesting.

In other news, I received and read through the first book in the I Hear The Sunspot series by Yuki Fumino.
