Can I use my Merseytravel "Local Concession" over 60 pass on any TOC within the travel area without charge (e.g. Liverpool Lime St. to Liverpool South Parkway on the EMR service)?

Yes. Without restriction, all operators - EMR, LNR, Merseyrail, Northern, TPE... the pass on it's own is fine as long as i) the time of day is right, and ii) both stops are within Merseyside. (ie limit is South Parkway for south, or Hough Green for east).

Nottingham based guards may not quite understand that, but it's quite clear.

They also, for example have to accept GM cards from Stockport to Manchester (and maybe Irlam/Urmston for ones which occasionally stop there).

You can also use it to Ormskirk and Chester, which are both outside Merseyside; I think you should also be able to use it to Rainford, even though the line is outside Merseyside for a bit between Kirkby and Rainford.

Yes, I understand the geographical limits, but was not sure if it was valid on TOCs other than Merseytravel and Northern.

I have used mine on Northern, Lime Street to Warrington Bank Quay, purchased a return from Earlestown to WBQ. Also on Northern, Lime Street to Wigan by purchasing a return from Garswood.

Be used on ALL trains that are within the Merseytravel area providing they stop within that area. The exception to the rule is Avanti trains as they don't stop within the area. You are able to use the pass on Trans Pennine trains to Lea Green and Newton le Willows stations too. Also as 'Vinnym' stay on train to go further providing you purchase a ticket for the extended journey, normally from the train guard.

The ticket for any extension to the journey outside of the Merseyside area should be purchased where possible before getting on the train and not from the train guard unless there is an opportunity to purchase before hand.

I will just add Transport for Wales to the list between Earlestown and Newton-le-Willows plus Liverpool Lime Street to Liverpool South Parkway and TPE services between Liverpool Lime Street and St Helens Central.

When gone outside the area, i.e. Bryn / Wigan and Warrington Bank Quay, purchase tickets from train guard without any problem (and nothing from the guard to suggest otherwise).

You also use it from Bidston to Heswall and get a return ticket from there to Wrexham.

Chester is a good run for a day out.

I stand by my original comments. It is a requirement under the conditions a travel and railway byelaws that customers have a ticket prior to boarding for their entire journey when an opportunity exists to purchase before the commencement of travel.

I agree that any extension ticket should be purchased before the journey commences, if facilities are available. Relying on obtaining such a ticket from the guard is fraught with issues. For example, guard doesn't come round, guard comes round after passing the last station on which the first ticket is valid, guards ticket machine is broken etc etc.

Except normal time restrictions apply (Not valid for travel before 9.29am on weekdays)

You used to be able to simply answer someone's query here without someone having an issue with your reply. If @Fokx had quoted ALL the text I typed without just posting without restriction in bold they would have realised their comment was already answered. The rest of the sentence I answered with also said....

as long as i) the time of day is right

I was just trying to be more specific in regards to the exact timings it can be used for the benefit of the OP who is unsure about how they can use their 60+ pass.

Nothing personal!

I think Merseyside also allows use of the pass after 23:00 and for journeys commencing before 0630 too.

Where can I use it?

Merseytravel Over 60s pass - on local buses within the Merseyside boundary, on the Merseyrail network (City, Wirral and Northern lines within Merseyside and as far as Chester, Ellesmere Port and Ormskirk) and on the Mersey Ferries for single river crossings (not River Explorer or Special Cruises). You cannot use the pass on coach excursions, special bus services, excursions, National Express or Merseylink.

When can I use it?

Merseytravel Over 60s pass - All day on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Any time Monday to Friday, except for journeys which start between 6.30am and 9.30am.

Merseyside Over 60`s Pass

From Merseytravel

You can also use it for journeys BEFORE 6.30 am Mon - Fri (thats what I intend to do if I am still working in 5 years time !)
