I was initially taken in by Mr Khaliq's side of the story but soon realised there was more to it than straightforward disability discrimination. For that reason alone I have not one ounce of sympathy for him.

IMHO, Northern should've banned him from using their services.

Given no other operator runs to Guide Bridge, i doubt it would have been good PR to do so, regardless of the initial "incident".

There's no way Northern could ban him, so they've probably been very careful to make sure nothing they said could been as discriminatory (he'd only go back to the forums/Daily Mail/local TV then).

The thing is, 'Tony' needs Northern more than they need him - which is why he's having to save face.

Well, if their "behind closed doors" response to him was anything that he could have flagged up as being a justification of his action, I'm sure he would have shouted it from the rooftops as a victory for disabled users.

The fact that he is hiding behind a confidentiality agreement (safe in the knowledge that Northern won't be able to go public for PR reasons if nothing else) makes me think that the discussion was in political terms "a full and frank exchange of views" - which he lost.

It's good of you to admit you changed your mind - a lot of people wouldn't :D

Well he is back, kid on lap etc. etc. still won't listen, some people just do not learn, personally when it comes to my turn to take him back, UNLESS i feel it is safe for him to use the ramp (unload child, shopping etc) he will not travel, management and the disabled lobby be damned, i'm not having the injury or worse to a child on my conscious!

I feel better now lol

Carry a camera, get the evidence, apply for a railway ASBO, and ALWAYS have the record running on your phone when dealing with him.

I agree. At the very least carry a dictaphone in a pocket. Actually, given all the arguments people might have with rail staff - and the fact that some c2c staff wear head mounted cameras - recording conversations isn't a bad idea to help deal with any situations where people might make a complaint/appeal (or change their version of events) later.

I have no idea if you'd be allowed to do this. I guess management could consider (partly legitimately) that if caught recording the conversation it might inflame a situation and put a staff member at risk.

Umm..... This might be an unwelcome post, but does anyone fancy posting a - brief!! - summary of what exactly happened here, for the benefit of someone who doesn't really fancy sifting through 60-odd pages?!! I am very curious.....

I read the tread he started on DS a whilst ago[am a member on there]but his story is full of holes, one minute he's saying he's to scared to catch the train, the next min he's saying he'll catch the train to prove he can use the 142s from Guide Bridge. Worst of all he didn't even wait for NR to respond to his complaint he went straight to the Media, & we don't know what happened before he switched on his camera. I get the feeling he's trying to get the sympathy vote, but he's acted like a tit.

You have every right to refuse me travel within reason. Just as you refuse travel to the countless Saturday night drunks and after-match football yobs.

Sorry to hear that me travelling on Northern Rail trains is making your job difficult. I restarted using over a month ago - how come you only heard just now.

Also it gives me great peace and assurance that the safety of me and my child concerns you. More than it concerns me.

Carry a camera, get the evidence, apply for a railway ASBO, and ALWAYS have the record running on your phone when dealing with him.

I wil not stop you from taking pictures, audio or video recordings of myself. But please try to refrain from making pictures or videos of my infant daughter. I would not want that to get into the hands of wrong people.

So he's not too scared to travel again like he claimed...

I am not afraid of travelling now that I have had repeated reassurances from Northern Rail and Network Rail. They have also provided me with direct mobile numbers of high-end officials at both respected companies. So that I can contact them there-and-then, if any problems arise with any member of staff.

What an absolute wally this guy must be! Will he ever learn?!

It was not for me to learn. Certain members of staff at Northern Rail were a little confused and a little arrogant in regards to how they should be performing a job for which they were being paid for. This has now been sorted.

Nothing really just that he hasn't learned his lesson (i.e. kid still on lap shopping everywhere etc etc still unsafe and still will not learn

So should I cease shopping? And what exactly do I need to learn here.

Well, I'm settled in this evening for another 60 odd pages after that!

Hmm... perhaps that wasn't phrased the best way...!

I really don't think there's anything to be gained by reopening this particular incident

Now there's a good idea - the first bit, not the last bit! I'd better not post anything though, it will be even more incoherent and badly typed than usual!

cease shopping, NO, using your mobility device as an overloaded shopping trolley...Yes

Also it gives me great peace and assurance that the safety of me and my child concerns you. More than it concerns me.

well lets be honest it is obvious the safety of your child does not concern you, otherwise you still wouldn't have her on your lap while you are boarding a train with an already overloaded mobility device

No one will refuse you travel if you follow the rules, I will not let you on if you have your daughter on your lap or if your mobility device is overloaded, I would do EXACTLY the same (and have done in the past) for anyone else commiting foolish acts

just use your brain and stop being a fool unless you are hoping a ramp will break while you are on it for another slice of the old media pie!

Probably not, but I bet it will be another 10-20 pages when Jon Morris and MattE2010 log on this evening!

You know me too well! No, seriously, I think what needs to be said has been said, we are only satisfying him by carrying on this long. I think I've been good of late, 60 hours plus of inactvity, and a post average at its lowest since Christmas!

I just find it amusing that every few months this thread is dug up again. This thread was the story of my summer!

Sometimes I thank God that I don't work on the railways.

All this serves to do is make the genuine suffering of other disabled people taken less seriously, which is the saddest thing in this whole sorry story.
