Stations with water refill points

You can fill up your bottle for free, but it has options on it such as for ice cold water for 75p if you wanted it.
These have replaced ordinary fountains where you just put your bottle underneath and the water started.
I believe it's something like 5 taps through a menu on a massive touchscreen now? Sometimes the application crashes.
It seems completely unnecessary.

There's at least one at Reading, by the way.

Leeds has two I can think of. One on platform 8 near gents toilets and the other on the bridge, next to the ticket booth which is tucked away in the corner.

Shame they cant do both as i can see the system crashing being a huge problem on a hot day.

I'll definetly keep the one in Reading in mind - whereabouts in the station is it for future reference?

Wolverhampton has one on platform 4 by the stairs.

Birmingham New Street had one by the red zone entrance for platform 10/11.

Telford Central has one in the station concourse/ building.

I used it myself today, it was in the waiting room near platforms 1-3 :)

Just to confirm, both Picc dispensers are still broken. Does anyone know when these will be fixed?

Is there a list anywhere for stations with water bottle refill points?

I know most Network Rail operated stations have them, thought the one at Euston wasn't working on Saturday and going by the state of the out of order sign, hasn't worked for a while.

Birmingham International
Birmingham New Street
Bristol Temple Meeds
Carlisle
Colchester
Coventry
Crewe
Edinburgh Waverley
Ely
Glasgow Central
Grantham
Leicester
Liverpool Central
Liverpool South Parkway
London Euston
London Kings Cross
London Liverpool St
Manchester Picadilly
Moorfields
Newcastle Central
Norwich
Peterborough
Shenfield
South Ealing
Stoke on Trent
Wigan Wallgate

There's one at Wilmslow in the underpass, which was out of order last time I tried to use it.

I think there's also one at Bolton in one of the waiting rooms. Not entirely certain though, I might be confusing it with somewhere else.

The South Western Railway website, which is updated recently enough to include 2022/2023 mentions, says there is one on the balcony at London Waterloo, at the platform 1 end.

Keeping hydrated is one of the best ways to stay comfortable. London Waterloo has a free bottle refill point with fresh water on the balcony opposite platforms 1 and 2 – ideal for topping up on the journey home.

How does the water taste? I am quite sensitive to the taste of Tap water. Or is it like mineral water.

I've used water refill points at Birmingham International, Colchester, Crewe, Ely and Peterborough.

Most Costa Coffee and Starbucks cafes will refill your bottle for free - I've never had an issue with any of them and they're a great help at stations which have no refill stations. Starbucks quite often wash my bottle whilst I'm there as well!
Do they wash your bottle in Starbucks with dish soap or just a rinse?

And also platform 7 waiting room!

I must confess I'm not aware of that one, but I'll be noting that for future reference 8-)

I had multiple options on the machine I used in Reading, the tap water (free) option was not chilled and didn't taste amazing. I didn't expect much else to be honest, I was just grateful to have the option. There were chilled water and filtered water options, which were not super expensive but I didn't try them.

That Refill scheme mentioned that some shops/cafes offer, I have to confess I've never used. Now I'm familiar with it, I'll have to try it some time. With the prices Starbucks charge, I won't mind asking for a refill with tap water into my bottle. I paid the best part of £4 for a medium black coffee yesterday, which was bordering on insane. I was super decaffeinated though, to the point of having to be willing to accept such an insane price. £3.73 to be exact, including a 5p takeaway cup charge. I'll be here all day discussing my displeasure in such crazy pricing, so I won't go there, and when I next visit I'll see about this Refill scheme and feed back on it!

It sounds like you should avoid Starbucks! Though in my opinion that's good advice in general.

Back on the subject of water fountains, anyone have any idea what makes them so prone to breaking at railway stations?

The paid offering from these machines is described as "Sipple Hydration 2X filtered, UV sterilised and super chilled" - or at least it was about a year and a half ago, when I was bored and examined one of these machines in detail (though didn't pay for the water so can't comment on the taste compared to normal tap water).

It still is something like that, if I find such a machine later then I'll make notes and/or take a photo. I might even pay for some and see what it's like, depends on the mood but I'm very intrigued!

Clapham Junction has a free water filling machine at the corner of the waiting room on platforms 9/10. Not sure about other platforms though.

There’s one on the edge of the car park at Gourock, but it’s part of the Scottish Water “top up tap” scheme.

London Paddington has one next to the toilets by platform 12 - this one is also a Chilly's Refill Station, enabling users to purchase Chilly's bottles and/or filtered/chilled water if regular tap water does not suffice.

Crewe is only the waiting room on P6. Not handy for the other island platforms on the station.

We are not able to fix the fountain and there is a break in the pipe that feeds it also. We need to replace the whole thing and we will do this as soon as we can, but we don’t have a date to share with you at the moment. Sorry for the delay.
