Seeing as their speciality is working on units for Scotrail this is an interesting move. I wonder if they will be finding work on suburban routes which are part wired to reduce their diesel reliance? I guess we will find out in due course.
Apologies if this should go to speclative thread, but could they be used as an extension to some Kilmarnock services or East Kilbride to release some Class 156 units for Anniesland with the Class 158/170 for Levenmouth services?

Seriously? Well good luck to Scotrail, I thought they’d be scrapped for certain.

However it wouldn't be the first time a Great Western unit was sent there, 166215 was sent there a few years back, can't remember what for but it was some kind of repair job.

I notice they've got the units tail lights powered up, rather than a battery lamp placed at the rear, is that something that can be done using just the unit's (internal) batteries?
I'm not familiar with how the ROG brake 'translation' system works, but it might be the case that the unit's auxiliary supply must be energised to allow the brakes to be controlled electrically.

I doubt they'll replace hst's imagine travelling on these long distance...
I posted a light-hearted joke on someone's youtube video of them about them replacing HSTs. Didn't realise there was separate rumour it might actually happen!

I doubt they would directly replace the HSTs. All speculation anyway.

Just a gentle reminder, we do absolutely welcome speculative posts.

However we just ask that these are posted exclusively in the Speculative Discussion forum section please.

Many thanks:)

Brodies posted a pic on their official facebook page that the unit has arrived for routine maintenance

Cannot understand why these sets need any maintenance, given that they hardly worked and have no planned future use? Especially as it required paying a third party to haul the units hundreds of miles to a faraway depot! Can Reading Depot not handle them?

I believe some of the ROG / Europhoenix 37s have the additional jumper socket so that the loco and units can communicate, presumably also keeping the tail light circuit powered up too. 37884 has the socket on it's noses.

There aren't any 769s at Reading, they were all handed back to Porterbrook and moved to Long Marston some months ago.

Porterbrook still hoping for someone to take a lease?
The trains are basically serviceable.
In the Speculative Discussion there is a thread about ScotRail and 769s.

Completely agree. Nothing has been announced so this may have no connection at all to ScotRail..
Indeed, far more likely that Brodies gave the cheapest price.

The tender for HST replacement isn't due for years.

Hopefully, yes, as there doesn't seem much point maintaining trains with no planned use!
Well, they're not going to get any better bids if the trains are just left to rot/seize/disappear into the undergrowth. Although you'd have thought they have a reasonable hope of something turning up, otherwise they'd be asking Gillette for their best offers.

True, but I would take 'maintenance' to mean attention to those things which require regular attention such as brake blocks and pantograph heads; Which won't deteriorate when the units are sitting in a siding!
