Hands up! for making s genuine mistake yesterday. It looks as if the article in The Herald while bad enough, is perhaps not quite what I thought. Apologies for causing any confusion by sending my post yesterday.

Are the 77 branded E400MMC gradually being moved over to Caledonia or are they just on loan? I’d have thought some E400EVs could have been moved over to operate the 77.

Yeah, 2 of Scoutstoun’s E200EV buses have moved over to Caley to help out (64188 and 64200), I saw the latter out on the 60 yesterday.

If 15 that are due for Glasgow are "14" reg-plated ones, then it’s nice to see them back in Glasgow.

Since those buses actually started their lives in Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the bus order wasn’t for First Glasgow though, it was for Manchester, they headed down there for their intended use after the games.

The 12 plates are the ones available for transfer, only one or two are staying with Manchester. Everything will become clear when the Rochdale routes start in March

Let me guess, 33747 is one of the ones that will stay in Manchester, since it’s in the Pride Livery for the Manchester area.

A few of Scotstoun’s E400s were loaned to Caley last week so I assume that’s where the E400s will go.

If it was the 14 plates it would be a bit of a full circle moment. It’s been ages since Glasgow saw cast offs from down South. Not overly thrilled about seeing 12 year old buses in Glasgow when there’s been so much new stock. I imagine there will be an order announced soon enough when Blantyre is electrified.

Yeah, I don’t get why they gave away those 68/19 plated Enviro 400MMCs to First Berwick (I think) ages ago.

Er…. Do you mean First Berkshire?

Perhaps it might be a means of having nearly new buses cascaded to OpCos that can’t afford them, as well having a balanced fleet profile? After all, Glasgow hasn’t exactly been starved of investment

Glasgow needed the investment given the sheer number of Euro3 B7TLs it had only 3-4 years ago, it was forced to due to the LEZ.

If they are like the 12 plates that went Sheffield the leather seat covers were rather worn & tatty & seemed to have not a great deal of power, if felt less going up hill.

If Glasgow wanted more B9TL buses, then why did they move some of their ones (such as 37212, 37267, and most of the YN08 plated ones [apart from 37238 & 37278 which were unable to go]) to Yorkshire and Bath in the first place?

They are coming to cover a vehicle shortage. Once newer stock arrives they will be cascaded again or sold via ensign.

Not disputing that they needed the investment to comply though there were plenty of English cities with LEZs. With the Berkshire e400mmcs, they went there to work services to Heathrow that are in the ULEZ.

What has happened is that Glasgow has taken the new vehicles, run them for a few years, and then sent them to other OpCos that couldn't afford new vehicles. Very much as Stagecoach used to do in the mid 2000s with London, and then Manchester.

I might add that whilst Glasgow has some high performing routes, but there are others that won't justify fleet with a high book value.

If some older buses are coming to First Glasgow, then its the most exciting thing to happen to First Glasgow in a while from an interest perspective.

Is the plan to match up additional vehicles and new drivers to increase some frequencies? Or are they short of what they need today, and what types of issues drive vehicle shortages?

There must be some scope to increase frequencies. Buses are very busy – although frequencies have never been so low (did anyone have the 75 running every 13 minutes on their bingo card?). First must be making decent money in Glasgow at the moment. Even if peak travel/season ticket revenue is down, frequencies are down about a third on a lot of corridors, so they’re squeezing a lot more people onto each bus. I’ve been going up to the eye clinic at Gartnavel a lot over the last few months, and every 6 or 6a I’ve been on has been mobbed – even in the middle of the day. Anyone know how recruitment is going?

First need to be careful. Running a minimum level of service is great for the bottom line in the short term, but it feeds the demands for some sort of re-regulation/franchising. Labour are going to be all over this in the run up to the 2026 Scottish elections.
