It was sutherneaster , they gave me recipient but I lots it can’t find it , I was so stressed that I almost collapsed, I was diagnosed with severe iron deficiency and get dizziness really often. Guy told me they send me letter and I have to be honest and reply it . I asked him will be serious and he said no if I pay fine . I go to the court if I don’t .
OK - welcome to the forum - you will get good advice here on how to negotiate the process. I sense that perhaps English is not your first language, so people can help you get the wording of what you need to say in reply to the letter as best as it can be.
It's a shame you have lost your paperwork, that is not ideal*. I assume you gave them a correct postal address where you can get your post over the next few weeks and months - this is vital especially if you have lost paperwork you were given.
Southeastern Trains are reasonable to deal with and a good chance they will agree to settle matters out of court if you follow advice from this forum. This can not be guaranteed however.
But to be clear you need to understand (and you can look at other threads for examples) the process involved. So I doubt very much they are going to send you a letter asking you to pay a 'fine' or penalty fare as you may have seen on posters on the railway. Your letter will probably say they are considering prosecuting you at court but asking you to reply with your side of the story. This is your chance to apologize and ask if they might be prepared to consider letting you pay them what you owe them for missed fares etc as an alternative to taking you to court.
My advice at this stage is:
- watch out for their letter, when you get it head back here for advice on what to do next and how to reply to that in a way that maximises the chance of you not being taken to court
- save up some money to pay them - as if they agree to settle the matter out of court they will want payment in full within a very short time
- make sure you make no ticketing errors or evade paying any fares at all on any journeys you take from now on as they will be investigating your ticket and travel patterns
- Their investigation will involve lookin at your touch in history and ticket buying so be prepared for them to find any other issues that such investigation might reveal.
I hope this helps you to prepare for what will happen next.
*edit - as mentioned up thread it may be a good idea to contact Southeastern to see if they can issue you with a replacement copy of whatever you were given on the day. This helps people give you the correct advice on what to do.
Surely if they have been told they will get a letter then this isn’t necessary, assuming the correct name and address was given?
Yes, assuming they were in fact reported for investigation for a 'ticketing irregularity' of course, and not given a Penalty Fare - already confused in the OP's account by reference to them expecting to be able to 'pay a fine'.
