No, fun-size HST.

There’s lots and lots of steps before we see any 175s out and about; if indeed we ever do.
What do you mean by ‘if indeed we ever do’?
Hasn’t the contract being signed for the 175s to transfer to GWR?

Been cancelled for the record.

Lets hope 175s are in good enough condition and can be fixed up where not, as GWR are somewhat stuffed if they're not (considering the need to withdraw HSTs, bolster Cornwall Metro, Intercity IETs and indirectly the Bristol area).

GWR seem to have some pretty good people, they got the 180s relatively sorted.

I'm sure the 175s will be well looked after

I mean contracts were signed for the 769s as well, which didn't really pan out. Hopefully the 175s will all enter service just fine.

I think they will as well. Exeter kept the 143s going and Laira the castle sets. Spare parts is always the problem.

Don't shoot messenger......
1× 2 car and 1 x 3 car for familiarisation for staff at LA.
The rest should be made fit for service at Manchester before being LA based for service for June timetable.
Then the 2 at LA will be the last to enter service.
No livery details yet.
002 already at LA . 3 car due this week.

Something has left Laira today at 12.58hrs to Newton Abbot and back. 5Z77.

If the same as what was booked the other day, it is only a mini hst set.

Helvellyn covered it already but yeah, just some healthy cynicism.

I really wouldn’t hold my breath on every “Zulu” headcode coming out of Laira possibly being a 175. It’s a major maintenance depot that sends its existing fleet on test runs a lot of the time.

As I said in my prior post; there are many, many hoops that need jumping through before we get remotely close to one venturing out; and I’m sure that one of the many spies on here will make mention when that actually does happen.

Their initial route clearance will probably be very limited; and early test runs will likely have to be done with another operator as they probably won’t be accepted onto GWR’s safety certificate until some of the early validation work is done.

Thus, the first venturing out will probably be with a ‘Q’ or even an ‘X’ headcode; and with a different company shown as operating it; not GWR.

I think I read previously that there is a simulator, if correct would that be at Laira or elsewhere?
Out of interest how many drivers will need to be trained on the 175's and approximately how many hours does that take for each?
Thanks

An HST is the whole set. Presumably you mean back-to-back power cars when you say “hst+hst”?
Yes.

One was at Cardiff canton the other was at Chester unsure if they've moved though.

As @Anonymous10 said, there were two, at Chester and Cardiff. They're pretty old tech at this point, and in any case were used more for teaching rules and procedures to trainee drivers rather than as practical handling skills specific to 175s.

Obviously GWR will likely want to devise their own course, but at TfW it was an 8 day course to learn 175s. Only a small part of that was handling; a lot of the mechanical and electric stuff is very different to BR era stock, so there's a lot to learn just on the static training.

Once you take the time to learn all of their quirks they are a lovely unit to drive however.
