Correct, though with GWR units going through C6 a right now, adding one more to the fleet would allow the initial Newquay hourly service to go ahead in May without the 175s....Tfw units are being withdrawn at end of their c6.

It probably could anyway, likely at the expense of a four carriage Exmouth Paignton diagram.Correct, though with GWR units going through C6 a right now, adding one more to the fleet would allow the initial Newquay hourly service to go ahead in May without the 175s....
I believe this has been put back beyond May now as the works are behind. Not sure where an extra 150 for Newquay in May will come from if their are no 175s in traffic. TfW to GWR rather than Sims perhaps!
However they are only being withdrawn at the end of their C6 certificate so would require a new c6 exam.Correct, though with GWR units going through C6 a right now, adding one more to the fleet would allow the initial Newquay hourly service to go ahead in May without the 175s....

We regularly have two car trains now and students get left behind, so certainly don't want to lose any 150s.It probably could anyway, likely at the expense of a four carriage Exmouth Paignton diagram.
Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if this is related to Treasury>DfT>NR release of funds (micro-management) rather than ability to keep to programme.I believe this has been put back beyond May now as the works are behind.
So cost and profit over service to the public, it is called public transport for a reasonAdding one more to the fleet adds one more to the C6 programme....

Indeed. Cost and "profit" is an utterly meaningless comparison.Calling it cost and revenue would be more accurate. I don’t disagree with you though.
The issue is even if a tfw unit was acquired they would need a c6 and alot of work doing. They are reported to be rotten and riddled with rust. So would be talking months from transfer to actual availability. So cost and profit over service to the public, it is called public transport for a reason
What would the power situation be with a four car 175?There's one Frankenstein unit at TfW (150279) made up two none crashed carriages that presumably has had all the works, it would be odd if it went to SIMs so soon!
Anyway that is off topic, I did like the 4 car GWR 175 the AI had created! Realistically it could be done by stealing a 3 car centre car so maybe they know something we don't
All 175 cars are powered. What would the power situation be with a four car 175?
Slip one ex-TfW unit into the GWR C6 programme and maximise the mileage on the existing GWR fleet before they head to Wolverton. That gives an extra unit in traffic. The issue is even if a tfw unit was acquired they would need a c6 and alot of work doing. They are reported to be rotten and riddled with rust. So would be talking months from transfer to actual availability.
TY, l was unsure about that. All 175 cars are powered.
Can the TUDI selection not be made from the driving cab? Seems a rather bizarre design if it were only operable from the rearmost unit, how is that intended to work mid-journey?Would 4 cars fit on their intended route? The 175s don’t have SDO. They do have TUDI, but this must be activated in the trailing cab of the desired unit and only locks out trailing units.
It is operated in the rear cab of the front unit. But it's not designed to be used as an SDO system during a journey and it is unlikely that GWR will use it in that way (too much risk of error). Can the TUDI selection not be made from the driving cab? Ah; I mis-read the original post!It is operated in the rear cab of the front unit. But it's not designed to be used as an SDO system during a journey and it is unlikely that GWR will use it in that way (too much risk of error).

At the 175s previous TOC, TUDI was operated solely by the guard (as they had sole control over everything door related). There was a protocol in place for using it mid journey with passengers onboard if absolutely necessary but it rarely was carried out - mostly it was used to lock a unit out for the duration. It is operated in the rear cab of the front unit. Are they full guard release? Their class 180 cousins had an unusual arrangement involving driver & guard exchanging buzzes, ISTR!At the 175s previous TOC, TUDI was operated solely by the guard (as they had sole control over everything door related). Yes, full guard release. As built they were set up for driver release, and the intermediate panels only had close buttons, but the wiring has been removed from the drivers release buttons, and release buttons have been added to the intermediate panels (in addition to the full panels on the cab bulkhead). Are they full guard release? I suppose they can send two, maybe three, units at a time from Ely or it will take forever to get them to Laira.A third 175 going from Ely to Laira, but 175002 or 175114 going back to Landore?

Don't believe so, 5W79 is going to pick up 175006 from Landore to take it to Ely, last one there.A third 175 going from Ely to Laira, but 175002 or 175114 going back to Landore?
