Barmouth still has its traditional BR large logo red sign on the side of the booking office.

Yes, but Tiverton Junction station closed on 12.05.86 so any remaining signs at the site that refer to the station can be classed as being out of date.
Oh yes, I see the reference to 'old' station now! Only excuse is not knowing the area at all.

There's an old railway map like that on the wall at Victoria station.

I agree. These are wonderful artifacts, both in the design (which is on individual glazed tiles) and in their proud celebration of a rail network.
The tiled map at Middlesbrough is an object of beauty. There's also one at York.
The one at York is in the NRM for all to see (with no admission charge!).

There's another identical map to those in Middlesbrough and in York's NRM on Tynemouth Station (now only served by T&W Metro but remains as a wonderfully spacious and well-used if poorly maintaned plot).

Codsall station has an original BR(W) brown enamel sign advising you to only cross the line using the footbridge (became temporarily redundant for the first time in it's 50 odd year existance a few years ago when a contractor knocked down said footbridge - I believe it cost NR several million pounds to restore it which is probably considerably more than the gate receipts from the station for a considerable period!).

I also found a GWR tresspass sign in the former Black Lion goods yard near Abercynon a few years ago on the deck while doing a contract job.

Noted today whilst doing the Sarah Siddons and 1938 tube stock run. A sign on platform 2 at Harrow on the Hill station, says 'British Rail Southbound Platform 2'.

My post wasn't about a BR 'double-arrows' sign anyway - just a sign directing people to the station car park :)

(probably the wrong place for this, and it might have been mentioned before, but is there any chance the BR 'double-arrows' logo can be a smilie?)

There is also one of these maps at Beverley, on Platform 2:

Cardiff Central famously has a very large GWR stone frontage.

Cardiff Central also has listed platform numbers which point to a non existent platform 5, and mean that the station will have a platform 0 for the foreseeable future!

Bromley North still has its original 'Southern Railway' sign at the front of the station. And just outside Lewisham station on the round-a-bout there's a Network SouthEast sign that reads "BR Network SouthEast working in partnership with Lewisham council".

Surprised Hanwell hasn't been mentioned, considering that just about all the things on the station (the lighting, the sign outside, the platform sign, the station buildings themselves) haven't changed in half a century or more.

Not a station sign as such, but there are speed limit signs on the PDL around Petersfield which reference HSTs. When was the last time this line saw a HST? 2002?

"HST" on Permanent Speed Restriction signs has a broader definition in the Rule Book than HST (Cl.43 plus Mk.3 trailer stock).

The Rule Book defines HST as "Class 91 locomotive with Mk.4 vehicles and DVT, 168, 170, 171, 175, 180, 220, 221, 222, 253, 254, 373, 390".

Though if any of those have made it down the PDL since VXC days (HST, 220/221) is another question!

Class 158 and 159 also come under HST speeds. I have an amended list dated December 2009 in my copy of SP but for some reason it isn't altered online.

I noticed that Preston still has British Railways Board signs which state the station isn't a designated right of way under the Highways act 1980 (or words to that effect). The Parcels platform still has Rail Express Systems nameboards in place.

Amersham station has signs pointing to British Rail trains too, quite a few LUL stations make reference to BR.

Kinghorn station has, in its ticket office, a 1987 scotrail sign, with the black lettering on a light blue background. The sign explains you must have a ticket before boarding the train, unless the ticket office is closed.

Also worth noting the BR "Passengers must not cross the railway, except by means of the footbridge" signs, located on Hebburn Metro station, on the Tyne and Wear Metro. It hasn't seen a BR train since 1984.

And there's the goods shed at Warrington central which is labelled 'Cheshire Lines Committee'

Theres a similar one next to Woodside Business Park in Birkenhead, then again theres lots of old railway buildings around there.

At Birkenhead Hamilton Sq, you can still see the writing on the tower 'Mersey Railway, frequent service of electric trains'

There is also a much more modern sign above it.

Not sure if it counts really as it's still relevent!

On that note, there is a sign dated 1992 (I think) commemorating the refurbished booking hall at Cambridge opening, with Network SouthEast and the NSE logo on it. This is in the booking hall at Cambridge, next to the exit and the payphones.

Not on national rail. but surely the most out of date are the "Great Central" signs on the Bakerloo platforms at Marylebone?

Beautifully tiled, though, would be a crime to remove them.

There is plenty of GCR insignia at Marylebone all over. The iron gates at the front of the station still have the logo on them, and there is a big keystone over the arch which leads from the concourse to Melcombe Place.

A few years ago at Fareham, a few of the poster display cabinets were removed from the waiting room wall on the island platform, revealing a few British Rail posters from the 1960s and 1970s.
