    Brexit matters

The big fall against the Euro came in 2008, not 2016 caused by the banking crises. Other than a blip in the year or so before the referendum the rate has been remarkably similar since 2008

Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh, aged 99, has died

If it had been anything other than the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, I can just imagine the Duke's choice words as he flicked between Radio channels, trying to find one that hadn't abruplty ceased normal transmission to bang on about it all day.....

Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh, aged 99, has died

I was driving listening to Radio 2 when the presenter was abruptly cut off with a solemn voice announcing "This is BBC News" Must admit that was the first thing that flicked through my mind.

    Brexit matters

None, aside from supplying key ingredients for millions of the EU's vaccines. We also exported the thick end of a million to Australia to make up for those the EU blocked, but kept quiet about it, as has now been revealed by the Australian press...

    Donut-shaped cities and their implications

I think the air might have been a factor but these areas were highly popular in the first half of the century when it was just as bad. By world war 2 the stock was getting old and as well as a lot of bomb damage many of the properties were too big for modern tastes and ended up either being...

    Donut-shaped cities and their implications

And it remains to be seen in the post Covid world how long the zone 2 gentrification lasts in London.

    Donut-shaped cities and their implications

It sort of happened in London in the 70's. What is now zone 1 north of the Thames was prosperous. Zone 1 south of the Thames and zone 2 became the decayed inner city with 3-6 increasingly prosperous the further out you got. Property in places like Stockwell, Dalston and even parts of Kensington...

Experience of discrimination based on Asperger’s syndrome

I am not a doctor but I suspect in a lot of cases the anxiety/depression is due to exhaustion/stress from having to conciously do what others unconciously do to "fit in" socially. I very much dislike meetings but am told I come alive during them. That is because I am acting and feel the same...

    Reshaping Britain's High Streets

I think they are doing that to some extent already by allowing landlords to convert them to residential accomodation with a minimum of planning paperwork. For the shop chains the balance between lightly used shops and online sales suffering as a result of vanishing from the public eye by having...

    Brexit matters

You know how to make a chap feel old It's bad enough when policemen start looking too young to be in the job, never mind cabinet ministers..... :)

East-West Rail (EWR): Progress updates [not speculation]

I meant obscure in the general picture of things (comparing to things like Twitter or digital spy). Specialist is probably a better way of putting it though.

East-West Rail (EWR): Progress updates [not speculation]

Correct, I'm not referring to you or the other chap I've been debating EWR with this weekend. I'm basing the assertion on having read posts here for a number of years, mostly as a "lurker"). With the rise of online media, stopping information getting out the wrong way in the way it was done in...

East-West Rail (EWR): Progress updates [not speculation]

I've suspected for a while (talking generally, not about the EWR project) that one or two regular posters here (I won't name names) are posting, not off their own back, but as part of their duties with the "PR" department of their employer. It is an increasingly common "news mangement"...

East-West Rail (EWR): Progress updates [not speculation]

Angel Road was one in one out though and only 580m away. There was a similar plan to close Cricklewood and replace it with Brent Cross South, and I believe they have had to drop closure of Cricklewood after widespread protest. Anyway, as you allude to there is nothing more we can do than go...

HS2 - impact of Amersham and Chesham by-election?

It is too late now. Had the local MPs instead of opposing the whole thing campaigned for a parkway station, either at Aylesbury or north of Amersham with a tube interchange where HS2 crosses the GC/Met Joint line as was, in return for dropping opposition then I suspect they might have prevailed...
