In the UK the train/s must stop at the station where the split is made, and it will class as a through journey.
I have no idea about Italy - what I do know however is that it is absolutely ridiculous to complicate journeys, complicate ticketing even further and potentially reduce passenger...
The impression I have is it would only be a stopgap until the new units arrive. There is an option for further Hitachi units on top of those already on order.

From my own experience the time advantage comes from drivers opening the doors, closing of the doors has minimal time difference.
To give them some credit, the franchisees don't just randomly decide to refurbish a fleet. It's all built into the franchise agreement.
Arriva are spending mega money replacing the GC fleet, when there were multiple alternatives available.
It's incorrect to assume if prices were higher than the same number of passengers would still use rail and pay a higher fare.
The seats are much nicer and far more comfortable. When I can, I use Lumo purely for the seats.
I am very happy about this and I thought more members here would be celebrating this occasion.
This announcement marks the removal of what is in basically an open access operation. Obviously now, all of those people who would travel on this train will buy full price tickets on LNER and other...
I think that might be unhelpful for those who want the ease of turning up and being able to get any train going in the right direction.
Out of interest, would you still support ticket acceptance during disruption between Open Access and state railways?
