Why don't the TOCs, or perhaps Railtrack, have their own fleet of buses operated by people who know the area.
High Peak buses have no difficulty running services around this area. To get to Chinley station you need a small single decker. Not the RRB I saw stuck there last week: a 100 seater...

I took the HP 190 yesterday, a small bus It just managed to squeeze through station road in Chinley. Coming the other way was a huge Andrews coach doing the RRB job. How it dealt with the narrow road don't know
I think that there was a severe speed restriction for loaded trains over the bridge before it was upgraded. I remember watching freight trains trundling through at walking pace.
On Tuesday I returned from Heaton Chapel to Whaley Bridge.
I caught the 2215 from Heaton Chapel arriving in Stockport at 2223 intending to catch the 2233 Buxton train.
But that train was cancelled so I had to wait for the 2319 which got to Whaley at 2348, 49 minutes later than planned.
