Football specials Nottingham to St. Pancras Sunday 27/04/2025

It’s the London Marathon too… I think I would be giving most London terminals a VERY wide berth that day, but especially any where it’s added to football traffic.

    CrossCountry's Driver Shortage

I’m sure they have done this ad-hoc very occasionally in much more recent times, when there have been problems between Stafford and Wolverhampton. Doing it as a one-off in times of severe disruption to keep the show on the road is presumably different to timetabling it for an entire weekend...

Avanti Trains - Easter Bank Holiday

Not everywhere. Our kids are off either side of Easter and are not back until 28th. Depends on the area (we’re Birmingham.)

    Delay Repay claims rejected

More positively… Mrs Bungle travelled from Birmingham area to Cardiff last week. Outbound changing at Bristol Parkway on to a GWR Paddington-Cardiff, rather than the direct CrossCountry service. Connection was delayed due to a points failure in Swindon. It turned out that although it was...

Newcastle to Leeds : Sunday 8th June (mid morning)

Too keen, but also looking at RTT for those dates; it would appear there is engineering work somewhere east of Leeds between Leeds and York, so there are fewer direct services. On 8th, XC are running via Doncaster and avoiding Leeds; TPE are diverting around Leeds to arrive from the west, so...

Birmingham to London - ticket advice (2 adults + 3 children)

No problem, thanks for your responses - very helpful! Good to have some clarity over the ticketing on TfL, the website is a labyrinth!

Birmingham to London - ticket advice (2 adults + 3 children)

Yes I’ve just checked - I didn’t realise there was a difference in the rules regarding the time you can use a F&F railcard vs TT railcard. We’ve got more Tesco Clubcard points than we know what to do with, so that’ll be a great use of £35 worth. Can get the return trip to below £55 for all of us...

Birmingham to London - ticket advice (2 adults + 3 children)

Good evening all, I'm planning a day out to London with the wife and three children (9, 6 and 4) at the end of April, most probably Friday 25th. Likely to be driving to Birmingham International and travelling from there to Euston. While we're slightly price sensitive - so Advances are fine -...

Upgrading an Advance to Standard Premium on Avanti

Morning all, quick question as the thread title suggests… can’t find the answer on the Avanti website. Holding an Advance standard class ticket (AWC+Connections) to Euston - is it valid for upgrading to Standard Premium on board / Seatfrog? Or is this restricted to flexible tickets only, and...

West Midlands - Cross City fare anomaly

Just wondering if anyone happens to know why southbound Cross City fares connecting to other services are more expensive from Wylde Green than Sutton Coldfield, when Wylde Green is one stop closer to Birmingham? Example, travelling today on an Anytime Day Return: Sutton - Leamington £16.90...

Wolverhampton <> Walsall via Tame Bridge Parkway

Not quite sure I follow… a quick search on BRFares shows “via Birmingham” and “not via Birmingham” fares, the latter of which is much cheaper. Presumably the latter is intended for journeys involving a change at Tame Bridge Parkway, which are offered by the National Rail site?

Birmingham Cross City/Rugeley Line disruption (10/08)

That was about a separate issue on Friday. The line was open again Saturday morning and running normally. Falling over again on Saturday evening in a very similar location was a separate incident. Unclear if directly related. Maybe, maybe not.

Birmingham Cross City/Rugeley Line disruption (10/08)

Oh I know, I don’t blame the guard. By all accounts the staff on both trains were quite visibly and audibly as irritated as the passengers. Trust me, the airline world is much the same as the railways in that regard!!

Birmingham Cross City/Rugeley Line disruption (10/08)

Wife was caught up in this - was a bit of a nightmare at Birmingham by all accounts, with nobody seeming to know what was going on. At around 2230ish, with nothing having gone north for ages, there was an already-full train to Lichfield in P7, which she made it to but was then cancelled...
