    Sunday Trading Laws Discussion

A lot of them will be in shopping centres with bigger stores (Intus or Westfields for example) and it makes sense to apply the same opening hours for the whole centre. Also I think a lot of stand alone Argos stores would squeak under 280 meters if measured, many are only the same size as a...

    Sunday Trading Laws Discussion

Along with quite a bit of the rest of the anglo-sphere including Ireland, New Zealand and many parts of the US, Canada and Oz. New Zealand, for example, only has trading restrictions at Easter and Christmas, and a compulsory half day on ANZAC day. Personally I would favour full deregulation...

    Am I lucky with viruses?

I've only ever had something I could possibly describe as 'proper flu' once, aged 20 when I was seriously abusing my body with booze and late nights in smokey clubs. Since then I've had the odd cold, usually mild and a couple of bouts of 'man flu' requiring a couple of days max off work. I've...

We are. I'm perhaps being a touch cynical, I do realise churches are doing good secular work at the moment.... but then so is our local village pub.

Was that abuse? Who are you or I to say religious worship is any better use of a persons time than going down the pub? In any case if it's a shop or betting shop, the law doesn't require you to give a reason to opt out of Sunday work.

We aren't going to agree on this, Puffing Devil. But what annoys me is you are sticking up for retailer workers one minute (post #34) then moaning about price rises in the following post when I suggest a partial remedy of higher pay rates for those working on a Sunday. And higher pay for Sunday...

Super trivial: Nearest shop you haven't been in

Theres a ladies only hairdressers near me if that counts as a shop. Otherwise I've been in every shop in the village, even if it was 20 years ago in some cases.

Time and a half for six hours on a Sunday would be the equivalent of three extra hours a week. Time and a half for eight hours would be the equivalent of four extra hours a week. These roughly equate to a gross pay rise of 7.5 to 10 per cent for some of the lowest paid workers in the country.

They don't *need* to. Just as we don't *need* golf courses or swimming baths or pubs or churches open on a Sunday. You could make that argument about anything? Personally I can live with shorter Sunday shopping hours but I've no desire to go back to the "Hancock Sunday" of only 30 years ago...

How far can I go on Thameslink on Oyster

Thanks. Thameslink and Tramlink are about the only things I've never been on in London so I should be able to take both out in one go.

How far can I go on Thameslink on Oyster

oh heck I've made a right mess of this question. I still think of Oyster as zones 1 to 6. Is there a map that shows the zone 6 boundary as it applies to Thameslink?
