    Independent businesses on stations?

Hartlepool has the Station Cafe which is does lovely grub and well patronised. Only gripe for me is it doesn't open until 07.15 just after the first up Grand. Central has left. Must be losing out on a fair bit of custom. The good old Rat Race is still there serving a great variety of...

Trivia: Football grounds next to railway lines.

I have (half jokingly) said to my wife that when the time comes and if it were possible, I want my ashes shovelled into the firebox of 65894 or 63395 as they leave Hartlepool heading north with an easterly wind so the ashes would end up on the Vic

I was on the KWVR last Sunday and there were a lot of overseas Bronte fans. Good to see and valuable revenue for the railway.

    Russian rail atlas

I'm sure Ukraine will have an up to date map of Russian railways. I went on a school trip ln 1972, Train from St. Pancras to Tilbury. Baltika, Russian cruise ship to Copenhagen and Helsinki, then to Leningrad (as was). Getting off the Baltika a young lad came up and asked if we had any Levi...

Traction Hauling 'The Waverly' Charter- (7/7)

Was a great day. Tangmere was flawless. My last time Settle - Carlisle was 1967 and it seemed strange to have a Southern loco pounding the fells, but then again, nowadays, any steam will do!!!

Class A1 Tornado Steaming after overhaul..

While I admire the building of Tornado, I can't help feeling that the upkeep of Blue Peter would have been a better use of money, Visually they are identical and apart from purists, would anyone know?

Traction Hauling 'The Waverly' Charter- (7/7)

Booked on it as an expensive treat. Tangmere (at front) Leeds to Carlisle and Carlisle back to Leeds, Diesel (no class or number) York to Leeds and Leeds back to York for operational reasons with diesel at the front and steam at the back!

    New Sunderland Station Building

I was there the other night for a train at 22.00 and it was pretty grim. Vast open, empty space. Not a soul about. I'm sure it's better during the day, but I don't think I'll be there again at night

    Tall Ships Hartlepool

The Tall Ships are arriving in Hartlepool next week. Last time in 2010 there were loads of extra trains running including loco hauled shuttles. This year? Nothing that I can see. Northern just providing a normal hourly service with 2 carriage units (ok a couple of 4 car on a Saturday) that will...
