2024 election and party Railway policies

The ROSCos are where all the "profit leaking" happens, but Labours "plan" doesn't address that at all. I don't see how bringing expired TOC contracts into DOR control when they are already micro-managed by the DfT will result in any noticeable change other than yet another new livery. As usual...

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

I wonder if it would be possible to have just 1 engine running to provide hotel power only, with traction being handled by the panto raised units? Presumably software could make this happen. Would save a bit of diesel.

Whence and Whither in ČD Journey Planner

Possibly the original Czech is a rather formal tone? I had a work colleague who's parents were Polish and hence he spoke fluent Polish. On a work trip to Poland whilst he was able to converse fleunty there were a lot of wry smiles and giggles. Turns out he spoke an old-fashioned and rather...

    1972 stock replacement date

Why does it take so long these days? Why, fundamentally, does it need to be a decade long process when in the past it took far less time?

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Tell me you've never driven one-pedal EV without telling me you've never driven one-pedal EV. The BMW i3 I hired, our Kia Niro and my Tesla all have one-pedal driving. And all of them if you want to move the car 1mm, you can do so easily. The one-pedal is far, far more controllable than trying...

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

We went into London from Diss last Thursday and there were hardly any seats on the train when it arrived at Diss. A few from Diss and everyone that got on later stood all the way to London. Return journey on the 1730 I used traksy so we could get on the train before the platform was displayed...

Lots of EVs offer one pedal driving.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Yeah, I hate creep mode in electric vehicles and it's a deal breaker for me if it can't be turned off. It's a stupid thing they came up with to make it mimic ICE automatic.

    Farringdon Cacophony

I think sometimes the tube despatches make lengthy announcements just to amuse themselves. Stand back etc is ok, but they don't really need to tell us that this is an x line train calling all stations to y, some even listing every stop.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Much, much nicer to drive than an automatic. No slushiness when you push the accelerator, no trying to constantly creep forward when stopped. Just instant torque and power delivered the instant you squeeze the pedal. I barely use the brakes, basically only use the brake pedal if I've misjudged...

    Glasgow Subway new stock

Hopefully I can get up to Glasgow soon for a go all ride on the Metro-Cammell stock. I love the proper tube train noises they make.

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

I did notice the new window stickers on the raised section s warning about the step down/up. Still think they are great trains!

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Crikey! They must have really clobbered themselves to smash toughened glass! Hopefully they get replaced.

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Went to London by train for the first time in ages. 745/0 both ways. Why have some of the luggage racks been removed? It looks most peculiar and with no rhyme not reason to which ones are removed. For example on the train home we were sat at the raised bay of 4 tables next to one of the "dummy...

    37 southbound on M11 yesterday

I was driving north and saw a 37 (I think 37714, definitely that sort of livery and it was named) heading south around the North Weald area. Anyone know where it was going?
