On the subject of reliability/ route length from the other day I was having a think back to 10/15 years ago and how the longest routes compare from then til now. It would be interesting to see older timetables for the longest routes then to see how long it took similar journeys back then and to see just how much of an impact that congestion has had in recent years.

I think back to routes like the old 18 route from East Kilbride to Summerston, the 20 from East Kilbride to Drumchapel or the 267 when it went beyond Hamilton to Newmains/Shotts for example.
Going back further than that we had long routes like the 4 Erskine to Easterhouse, 11 Abronhill to Parkhall, 19 Drumchapel to Little Earnock via Govan, 54 Summerston to Spateston/Kilbarchan, 58 Burnside to Balloch, 61 Summerston to Motherwell, 73 Lennoxtown to Eaglesham and many more.

Some services as you mentioned like the 18, 20 and 267 were split for reliability but we can only assume the 6 (66 before that) has remained cross-city as it still carries decent numbers, mostly students, from the south side to the west end and therefore it's too much of a financial risk to split it.

Some of those routes are impressive to say the least. Yeah I've seen busy 6s from the south side over to the west end a few times. It's interesting in a way given that the 4/4As I've seen from Muirend to Glasgow Uni have tended to be quiet in comparison to the 6/6A yet actually go past the uni.

It's beyond Anniesland for the 6 to Clydebank that's always been the really quiet end since I've lived where I am now and that's 16 and a half years so well back into my childhood and the 66 days.

I'd love to see the numbers for East Kilbride town centre to Calderwood too. It's been busy sometimes but it's a bit of a small corridor for a frequent service given that the 21 is also through that end of Calderwood too.

Quick question - are the 11/61 plate E400s Euro 5 or 6?

On a separate note I’ve noticed First seem to be intent on painting a lot of B7RLEs into the new livery. The youngest B7RLEs are now 15 years old which is normally about the average life span of single deckers within First. With lots of new stock coming are we expecting these to be moved on once again or fully withdrawn with the next load of buses?

First depreciate larger vehicles on a 17 year life. The repainting is because they're looking shabby, and a number will still be needed for lower-margin services that don't enter the LEZ.

I noticed today as well that Blantyre's 33259 seems to only be half route branded now for the 18.

Surely they aren't think of getting rid of the route branding already and moving them?

How is it “half route branded”? What exactly is missing of the branding?

For those after pics of freshly repainted ALX400-bodied Trident 33374 (LK53 EYT), here ya go. Was on the 7/7A today, now a regular haunt for the remaining 5 ALX400s (along with the 10/57 & 57A).

I onder why they repainted one of the ALX400s. I noticed one runs on the 4A towards Eaglesham in the morning.

Am I right in thinking that Buchanan Street bus station is just outside the Glasgow low emission zone?

It is by one specific route, but this is only a temporary arrangement until a date not stated yet, I think.

Social distancing & the resultant need for deckers undoubtedly contributed to the decision. Were it not for COVID, the remaining Tridents and the oldest B7TLs (namely the 6 Scotstoun-based Presidents and the YN53 reg ex-South Yorkshire Geminis) would have no doubt been despatched by now. Even with the incoming new stock, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Tridents last until near the end of 2021.

Well they got the x37 bit wrong passing by moodiesburn by the looks of it instead of showing it the same as X36 . That could maybe explain why some are still confused about x37 .
They didn't, the map is accurate... The X36 goes direct down the M80 while the X37 goes via the A80 / Cumbernauld Road.

Whilst out walking the dog last night I was passed by a 62 plate E300 returning to Scotstoun. Out of curiosity I looked to see if it was one of the batch that had been upgraded to Euro 6 but was surprised to see it sporting a Euro 4 decal.

Anyone know what was the deal with this? I thought that they had all been delivered as Euro 5's.
