TPE to go 2-hourly Glasgow/Edinburgh on WCML from June (still at 110mph?)

They do not have the fleet for any more [Liverpools] when the North TPEx goes back to more frequency. This is about restoring what has previously been cut, rather than add something new that has never existed before.
"back to more frequency?" I wasn't aware that Liverpool had even regained all its previous Scottish services yet... Currently just 2 per day at 0812 and 1612, both to Glasgow from what I can see.

And that's if they run.

The thread title is directly from TPE's spokeperson who said "It will essentially be going two hourly Glasgow, two hourly Edinburgh with Liverpool services remaining at a similar quantum to today. What that gives is a standard calling pattern north of Preston, which customers have been crying out for."
It is, I was just getting at the idea it would have been clearer if they'd said instead that the missing services between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central would return.

Slightly off topic, was on the 10:21 Man Picc-Edinburgh earlier. The guard had quite a few passengers with seat reservations that didn't exist.

It twigged after a couple of minutes thinking about it that this is the normal 802 diagram on a Saturday, running with a 397 today. Suppose that's an issue that probably hadn't been accounted for. The train was standing room only, so could certainly have done with the extra capacity. Even the onboard revenue protection staff just checked the rear couple of coaches and then couldn't get any further.

Only solution would be to somehow set the extra seats on a 802 to being unreserved so in the event a 397 ends up on that diagram nobody will have seat reservations for seats which don't exist.

Glad I paid out the £20 for weekend first for that particular service ;)

That would be an easy solution I quite agree.

Does a 397 have fewer seats than an 802? I thought they were pretty much the same.

Nope, 318 standard seats in the cl802 vs 286 for the cl397.
Thanks, that’s quite the difference. Now I can see why a 397 turning up instead of an 802 would cause the issue of passengers finding their seats didn’t exist mentioned upthread.

An 802 vs a 397 is like Audi vs Skoda. The 397 is the Skoda - fine for most but feels a little cheap in places. The 802 is a very solid product.

I suppose in this analogy the 350 is the Mercedes

An old Merc 190. However, I have been on a couple of slightly rattly 350s at high speed. The TPE one I took from Manchester to Edinburgh back in 2015 felt brand new, however. Was the 16:30 from Manchester to Edinburgh booked a double pre-2019? It was rammed.

In 2015 the TPE 350 would have been in service for around 12 months so you're not far off. The double sets only ran at weekends so it depends which day of the week you travelled but I don't think that service was one of the booked 8 coach trains.

It was a Friday, but like you say they'd only entered service 12-18 months before (was March '15)
