Cross London Journeys During Tube Strikes

Update..

I tweeted XC on my daughter’s behalf and they said that she could travel between Birmingham and Reading with her ticket as XC had ticket acceptance in place with GWR.

However, they wouldn’t allow her to travel between Derby and Birmingham. She would need to ask the Train Manager’s permission.

I thought it best if she bought an advance single from Derby to Birmingham with her railcard, circa £7.30 to avoid any confrontation on board the train.

Everything worked out fine in the end, although the last train into Reading arrived about 15 minutes late.

Of course, the tube strike was cancelled at the 11th hour so she could have travelled via London without too much hassle, although there were still issues on GWR out of Paddington.

I would contact XC customer relations after the fact to ask them to reimburse the cost of this ticket. Given that the Tube strike was called off at such short notice (by which point your daughter had presumably already set off avoiding London) it is little different to if it had gone ahead.

Bit of an old thread this I know but what would be my bedt bet to get from Kingscross to Edgeware Road on Mondsy 8th April ad I believe the Tubes are on strike.

Anyone know what bus I would need?

The 205 would be your best bet.

Agreed.

Bus spider maps for...

King's Cross - the 205 is shown in grey, catch it from stop A on Euston Rd.

Edgware Road - the 205 is shown in red/brown, alight at stop EQ on Old Marylebone Rd or stop ES on Sussex Gardens.

Worth noting that threatened Tube strikes often end up being called off late in the day, and even if there is a strike there might be a reduced service running on parts of the network (though this can change through the course of the day).

Don’t underestimate how busy the buses will be on a strike day.

It’ll probably be quicker to walk - takes about 45 minutes.

The expectation is that these strikes will get called off, and even if they don’t some service on most lines is anticipated. The Circle and H&C should see minimal disruptions as it is a majority RMT line.
