Hollo, I have just been invited to interview! Anyone has any tips please? I have read some previous posts, however invitations mentioned 2 group exercises, anyone any idea what it is and how to prepare for it?

The whole of the East London Line from Highbury & Islington to New Cross inclusive, New Cross Gate exclusive (fringe with TBROC) & Queens Road Peckham exclusive (fringe with TBROC).
Works a 12hr shift pattern but I’m not sure on the actual rotation.

Am I right in thinking the signal box is still owned by TfL, but now run by NWR? Met a fellow signaller who worked there on the the Bakerloo line a couple years ago now and I think that's what he told me.

I would definitely reccomend it even if you are close , bonding with the rest of the group to help each other out with revision and preparation for observations is in my experience will help a great deal .

I would second this , if you are unclear on a concept , particularly early on make sure that you ask the trainer to explain it in a different way or get someone else in your group to help you understand it .

Also I found that learning how to confidently run the back desk on the simulator early on helped me a lot with normal mode of signalling because you are sending bells and using block instrments as 3 different "signallers" .
100% agree with that last bit. Learning the back desk was a great help for me. I probably spent more time on that than the sim, but I’d learn from the people I was throwing challenging scenarios at.

Have fun with it, throw some ridiculous scenarios around.

Has anyone had issues with uploading documents? I am converting documents, taking different pictures etc and still cannot update any of them as it says needs to be under 10mb. (They are less than 5mb)

I found if you're taking the pictures on your phone and reducing the size it makes no difference.

Try scanning with a regular printer if you haven't already!

Has anybody who has applied lately notice their online portal change from Online Tests & Assessments to Assessment Centre? I have applied for Grade 9 at Edinburgh. I am just querying as I don’t want to get too excited and get ahead of myself until anything is confirmed. Thanks.

£47,863 a year after fully qualified

Depending on tax code will give you a rough idea

Maybe ask your prospective employer what the salary will be…?

Why is everyone so scared and/or coy about sharing salary levels?
This is true, most respected employers already disclose the salary on the job posting.

I'm guessing by grade 7 he means signaller, so network rail openly post salary quotas on the website.

If its a signalling role. The advertised salary isn't inclusive of shift premiums. Most Signaller roles you can add a 30% on top just for working your normal shifts.

There are no Bakerloo or any other underground signalling controls in the ELL Signaller centre, just one signallers workstation and one shift signallers managers workstation.

Wow, it really is crazy. Helps you understand why there is so much competition for roles.

Is the 30% around about normal for a relief signaller too?

Quick question though what do you consider “most signaller”

Whilst relief signallers dont have sundays built into the roster , they do get first refusal on residents unwanted/unavailable sundays so still work sundays that come up . And being competent in more than one location obviously increases the potential for overtime being offered so most relief that want to work overtime do really well . Depending on the area you cover as a relief you can already have a relief premium of up to 32% anyway .

So the 30% roughtly accounts for the additional pay for 2 sundays out of 4 on a 12 hour roster with a 4 person box , night premiums , working Saturday night into sunday morning . Most residents will work their book sundays . Add in even a modest amount of RDW like 12 a year and you are looking at another 10% on top again .

Thanks matey, very useful to know, especially about the Sundays.
I have just accepted a G9 relief position w/4% as it’s just in one location.

Sorry I didn't realise how complicated I made that sound. I met a fellow signaller whilst we were traveling on the bakerloo line one morning (me to work and him going home). He said he worked at New Cross Gate, and I asked him was it the same when TfL owned the line and it was the ELL on the tube network. I think he said that TfL still own the building, but NWR now staff it. Again it was probably 3 years ago and I've forgotten the details of the conversation.

Plenty of Sundays at Doncaster due to vacancies so you’ll be dipping your bread

Regarding where i said "Most Signallers"

Sorry I was a bit late to see this, but as Muz has said. Its dependant on the box working Sundays, Working rest days as to how much over you can/will go.

I'd hedge my bets that there isn't a single operational signaller earning basic and nothing extra.

Impossible now that we get the holiday pay supplement. Even if a box was closed every night and every Sunday.

I uploaded the pay progression table from the company Q&A document in post 18680 which is on page 623 of this thread. The time needed for location specific training before passing out is highly variable depending on how complicated the location is.

I found that, when you press the option for the documents, taking a picture though the options instead of selecting a pre taken picture helps. Tried to contact support but they can't add the documents when you send it to them.
