A Fort William to Mallaig working with a refrigerated van attached.Taken in April 1987.
Plenty of trips from Cheltenham to Paddington behind steam in the 1950s,but an abiding memory is having D0260 "Lion" from Gloucester to London around 1962/3.
I loved driving the 143s - pure simple machines.
They may have been awful for the passengers, but great to drive.I had several thousand miles on all of them (except 143605,but that's another story),and I'd be happy to be back on them.
A few interesting moves from this week -

I've done National Express coach Cheltenham to London several times for under £5.00 on each occasion, the cheapest ever being £2.40 (one way - it cost me another £3.50 to get back !!!).
I don't understand this - surely a train from Bristol Parkway to Didcot would be a London service. Why the need to change ?
If the journey started at Bristol, was a ticket held, and if so,where to ?
Only if (not) played on a grand piano.
As an aside,I once gave a friend a copy of a CD entitled "4.33 variations",which consisted of the (non)tune (not)played on different instruments.
Typical black mamba around 8 foot in length, although specimens up to 14 foot have been recorded.
Hardly " medium" (although compared to pythons or anacondas ....).
Nice of them to re-time the 07.46 service from Gloucester to 08.13.This will now arrive at Stroud too late for the schoolchildren and several workers to be on time.
Over to the 07.30 bus.
Cars parked blocking the pavement there are a regular occurance. The last time I was there (a week ago) there were two or three parked thus, forcing you into the road to get by.Never met the local nutter 'tho - looking forward to that.
Last Thursday (27th June) I photographed two sets of Class 325 units at Dutton Viaduct at around 19.20.A three set formation heading north, and another three set heading south.Unfortunately too far away to i.d. the numbers.
Anyone able to help identify them ?
I've now clocked up over 10,000 miles on the 800s,and apart from the awful seats,I find them quite acceptable. The rough riding I've only experienced between Swindon and Paddington, although it is very rough.
