Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

Up-thread somebody linked to another thread on a similar topic. That thread had a post which said that the confusing validity text was trying to be resolved but the timescales were uncertain...

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

But the base ticket (if that's the correct term) is the £28 Cambridge to Finsbury Park, not to Farringdon. Or at least we're assuming that's what the base ticket is.

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

Definitely £31 exactly for me. I searched Cambridge to Paddington, 6pm departure this evening, with avoid Liverpool Street in the advanced options. £31 fare offered on the 17:53 from Cambridge and then 19:12 from Farringdon, arriving at Paddington 19:20.

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

Thanks for the answers so far. Some bonus/awkward questions :) Do I have to go via Tottenham Hale, even if not calling at it (I guess yes)? Would there be anything on the ticket at all to indicate the Tottenham Hale part of the journey (I guess no)? Can I go via Kings Cross instead of Liverpool...

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

Interesting ... I've never heard the term "compound fare" before. I assume that a "compound fare" is not the same thing as a split ticket, because TrainSplit isn't showing me multiple tickets like it normally does for splits? Would it be valid for a train that doesn't call at Tottenham Hale (I...

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

Journey: single from Cambridge to Paddington, any off-peak time (e.g. 12:00 today), no railcard, flexible times selected to prevent advance tickets being offered. TrainSplit suggests an itinerary of Cambridge to Liverpool Street (depart 12:03, arrive 13:15) and then Crossrail to Paddington...

Southern, Thameslink & Great Northern 'Not On Strike' Details

The data I linked to is for the last overtime ban at the start of August, not the upcoming one. And it shows the exact opposite of what you say - Farringdon calls happened early morning and late evening, and not during most of the day. However you make a valid point for my journey on 6th...

Southern, Thameslink & Great Northern 'Not On Strike' Details

I hadn't noticed the other differences - I was focussed too mutch on the core. On one hand, if it was a one-off I'd agree that it's definitely a data glitch. On the other hand, for a random data glitch to happen 5 times out of 10 during an overtime ban, and never on the weeks either side, seems...

Southern, Thameslink & Great Northern 'Not On Strike' Details

Some more digging in RecentTrainTimes showed the 5 days I claimed the Thameslink trains weren't running at all during the last overtime ban wasn't quite true. They were running an hourly service - but they were skipping Farringdon and City Thameslink. Assuming that the data can be trusted, of...

Southern, Thameslink & Great Northern 'Not On Strike' Details

Does anybody know what we might expect for Thameslink Cambridge to Farringdon services on an overtime ban day (specifically Friday 6th October)? Journey planners are still showing the regular half-hourly timetable for next week Looking at the detail from the last overtime ban in August by using...

Mass removal of services from station departure boards during disruption

Could "disruption mode" be changed so that there is a one-line scrolling message listing all cancelled trains originally scheduled to depart in, say, the next hour? And then display the trains that are running as they would normally be displayed, so the board looks like: * These trains are all...

How to tell which services are mandatory on an Advance ticket before booking?

Thameslink introduced seat reservations a couple of years ago (see this thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/thameslink-seat-reservations.222628/). Great Northern did the same more recently: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/great-northern-seat-reservations.252660/

    Great Northern seat reservations

I was looking at advance fares from deepest Cornwall to Cambridge in early October, and I noticed that GWR's site says that I must reserve a seat for the King's Cross to Cambridge leg of this journey. I've never seen seat reservations on Great Northern trains before. How new is this? I've always...

Southern, Thameslink & Great Northern 'Not On Strike' Details

That's odd! It definitely doesn't show if you look at the Cambridge departures page: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/simple/gb-nr:CBG/2023-08-01/1800

Southern, Thameslink & Great Northern 'Not On Strike' Details

I don't think it was even running today. It wasn't showing in a journey planner or RealTimeTrains for CBG to ELY either. Nor is it tomorrow.

    Ely Station works

I'm coming to the conclusion that Ely ticket office now shuts at 09:30 in the morning. For the last two months, I've travelled on either the 09:16 or 09:48 Great Northern trains. Without fail, when I arrive at the station a few minutes before the 09:16, the ticket office has been open. But a few...

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

Are you trying to search for e.g. Ely to Cambridge+Bus? That doesn't work. You have to set the origin and destination to the same train station, one of them with the +Bus variant, e.g. Cambridge to Cambridge+Bus: https://www.brfares.com/!fares?orig=CBG&dest=J096&period=20230703

    RealTimeTrains website

Even if the requested feature wasn't officially added to the UI, the ability to search/filter by platform number would make it a lot easier to do manually.

Fare Dodging - the new national sport?

I once overheard a guard use the following line of questioning, which I was quite impressed with: - That's a child ticket. Are you under 18? - Yes - What's your date of birth? - (got an appropriate answer) - That makes you 17, right? - Yes, that's right. - Child tickets are only for under 16s.

Ely platforms "L" and "G" on RealTimeTrains?

Today I've noticed some trains at Ely shown as calling at platforms "L" and "G", according to RealTimeTrains, which I've never seen before. What do these letters mean? Platform "L" on a Colchester to Peterborough service: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C52259/2023-02-10/detailed...
