I recommend you don't lie in your letter. You don't have to admit to using it for longer in the letter, but what you do write needs to be honest. You could potentially end up being summonsed to court, lying in court has far harsher penalties than fare evasion.

If you've been using it longer than the week you claim then be careful how you word your reply as you're already in enough trouble without digging an even bigger hole for yourself.

CCTV would show you went to ticket office, it wouldn't show what ticket you showed them. Not saying it was, but it could've been the original 18:18 ticket that you may still have had in your app/email.

Apparently the OP was £1 short. Another passenger gave them a £1. The TM then stole this £1 and walked off, leaving the passenger a £1 short of the fare again.
