Remember often seeing Vacuum braked MK1 SK's at Paddington in the early 1970's labelled Dual Heated ( Electric Heat Not Operative ).
I believe that the explanation was that the vehicles were built with dual heating but the ETH was never comissioned as the WR had no ETH locos at the time.

In the BR era ( 1970/80 ) HST's running on 1 power car were common when the Paxman engines had overheating problems. Was on several where it was a slow climb up from Stroud to Sapperton summit.
They would start the diesel engine a few minutes before.
Then at the end of the 3rd Rail, close the electric controller and open the diesel controller.
For "Worst Railway Journeys in the UK" my vote would be a journey from Cardiff to Manchester in a TFW Class 153.
There were several today according to Realtimetrains.
A bit slow but there is a bus No 103 between Colchester/Manningtree/Harwich
Suggestion:
Get the train from Liverpool Street to Manningtree
Walk to the Skinners Arms ( About 10 mins )
Then 103 bus to Harwich
I was there on BR in the 70's/80's
The scenario was just the same with restrictions on who does what and where.
Co-operation between regions for Crews/Locos/stock etc could take several days if it happened at all.
I am afraid BR is not a good example to plan for the future.
Voyagerplan's predecessor PROTIM was written by 1 talented individual in York in the Late 1980's
At the time the central BR IT systems were based in Nottingham.
Even by the standards of the time, a lot of the software produced by BR Nottingham was very poor.
The most comfortable aircraft that I have ever flown in was an Air Canada 767 from LHR to Toronto.
The most memorable was in 2006 when Air Berlin flew from Stansted to Belfast.
The steward announced "Velcome to this fokker 100 to Belfast" You could tell who was British or Irish by the...
For a detailed report on a UK rail chemical incident, It is worth reading the report on Weaver Junction 1975 or Summit Tunnel 1984 that had a similar axle bearing failure to East Palestine.
Another short electrification that comes to mind.
Rogerstone to the Newport junctions.
This would allow the class 756 to be run on Ebbw Vale services on electric between Cardiff Central and Rogerstone.
RailUK was launched on 6th June 2005 - so we've hit 20 years being the UK's most popular railway community! Read more and celebrate this milestone with us in this thread!
