Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

I started back in November, it's gone really well thanks. We've left the classroom now going on to traction conversions etc. Still don't have uniform but it's on its way thankfully (delivery problem) You for Chester?

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

Sterling only got in touch with me when there was missing information. In my case it was my now previous employers being late to confirm my start date with them ( I provided original documents instead that I had lying round) I then asked sterling if everything was OK after doing that, they...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

Yeah not bad thanks. Quite a chunk of the learning so far has been done online, although we're now in the classroom. I'm in Chester so wouldn't know about Cardiff unfortunately but good luck !

Cycling to work as a train driver

I used to cycle to Liverpool to work that was around 10 miles including a final section through the Mersey tunnel with its 1 in 30 and sometimes 1 in 20 gradient. It certainly got the blood pumping and ready for early shifts better than any amount of caffeine. Thats said as others mentioned you...

    Epilepsy & Train Driving

I was a conductor when I had a one off seizure. I had my driving licence taken away for 6 months and was restricted for the same period. I went though all the investigative processes with the NHS including EEG's & an MRI. Nothing was found and after the 6 months lapsed I applied for my licence...

I applied at the back end of March through Acorn and only heard back in July. From there I think I was one of the first batches to do the paper tests and everything else following on from that. Test results were all emailed and I had a phone call when coming out of the talent pool. Have to...

Just a quick one to say after initially being in the talent pool for two weeks, I was plucked out and sent for a medical. Successfully passed and been given a formal offer/contract & start date in early November. This is for Chester. Hang in there if you're in the talent pool and good luck if...

Front line staff: are you worried about job security?

Fully agree. The fact there's another thread elsewhere on the forum throwing round the suggestions that they could save money by closing ticket offices, going DOO more & cutting services hasn't done my anxiety any favours today. I like many give as much effort at work in a job I really enjoy, to...

Trivia: UK rail service with most booked stops in one journey?

Liverpool - Norwich is around 15/16 calling points. Merseyrail loop services operate with the same headcode. So Ellesmere Port to Ellesmere Port is 32. What about those XC services Aberdeen to Penzance, or is it the other way round there's only one a day that does the dull run and I can't...

Guards of this forum, what do you to negate the risk of giving a RTS bell on a red signal?

For myself I say off twice. Off for the signal first, and then off again for the hazard lights all being off. Kind of muttering to myself almost. Another way is to physically not key in to the DKS untill you've got a proceed aspect.

DMI is Driver Manager Interview. I had this first before anything else. Usually a depot manager and I had one member of the training team also join, and was held on Microsoft teams due to the current situation. Worked quite well i thought, helped relax the nerves doing it from home .

I applied in March and did my computer/mmi tests on Tuesday last week, I was the only one for Chester that day. As said above we were specifically told it would be a week before hearing anything, and true to their word that's how it's panned out. Did they deffo tell you straight away after...
