    Trivia: Historically longer bus routes

At the time of deregulation in 1986, the 94 had a couple of extensions beyond Wrexham, both very short lived. One was to Chester (no idea how often), and on Mondays and Fridays one journey was extended to Crewe. This was probably to connect with trains, but didn't last much further than 1987.

    Hulley's of Baslow

Interesting idea, re-using the TSW logo from the 1980's.

    Chester City Transport / ChesterBus

I know Crosville Wales diverted some of their Deeside services through Blacon but the only major outbreak of competition was around 1996 when St Helens based South Lancs Transport started high frequency minibus services on several Chester City routes. It didn't last very long and they were soon...

    West Yorkshire newcomers

Interesting site. The About Us page names the 'Lethers Travel Team' - https://www.letherstravel.com/about These are apparently the same people who work for Cross Street Cars in Swindon, except that Simon Lether is now called Andy De Witt- https://www.crossstreetcars.co.uk/about In fact, a...

    Warrington's Own Buses

http://foam.merseyforest.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Northwich-Woodlands-Map.pdf It's not that far really - from Anderton to Northwich town centre is only about a 30 minute walk. I did the walk from Marbury to Northwich via Neumanns Flash a couple of weeks ago which is really nice, and...

    Warrington's Own Buses

There is the option to get the 1600 to Northwich and wait for the 1645 back to Warrington, but its far from ideal. There is also a lovely walk from Anderton through the Northwich Woodlands that brings you out in Carey Park at the back of Asda and the town centre.

Why do “both ways” stops exist?

Most of the signs in Cheshire were Crosville's and in 1986 the county council simply added a Cheshire Bus vinyl on to them, usually over the 'Bus Stop' wording. By the 90s, Crosville was gone from most of the county and the council replaced all the signs with their own, the one pictured in...

    Warrington's Own Buses

Is the X99 just for the Warrington Disability Awareness Day at Walton Hall on July 16th? I know a few years back it ran on summer Sundays, but I thought it was just for the one day event now?

    First Potteries Discussion

PMT operated it on under contract on Sundays around 1987, as well as a couple of the Macclesfield locals.

Stagecoach Merseyside Cheshire and South Lancashire

I was on the 10:07 from Chester to Crewe and can confirm that before it set off from Chester, it had arrived in pretty full with what looked like a large group of 15 or 20 people travelling together. The bus I was on was fairly full but emptied at Nantwich, although I did notice when we were...

    D&G Buses

Pre Covid the website used to list services by area, so the Cheshire and Stoke services were listed separately. Something similar would be helpful and cut down on the couple of duplications - maybe even add a network map like the one for Chaserider.

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

Given the 3 used to run to Leighton via Broad Street it might be confusing to some to run it to the hospital via the 6 route as a number 3. Not that seems to bother D&G who are re-routing their 12 to the same route as the 6 but keeping it as a number 12.

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

Quick clarification on the old PMT depots in Crewe. At deregulation in 1986, they won a lot of work off Crosville, and they opened a site on Lockitt Street, just off Mill Street. They very quickly moved to the Crewe Gates Industrial Estate which was a much bigger site. By strange coincidence...

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

I can see D&G running the 31 hourly as it currently does to Northwich but running a short from the Bus Station to Leighton Hospital to give a 30 minute frequency along Underwood Lane. Or, possibly turning one of the 12's into a 6 so there's still a bus every 30 mins to Shavington, but only one...

    Flixbus Discussion

We went to London from Warrington in September with Flixbus, and the seat reservations were a total waste of time. On the bus going the driver didn't show any interest in making sure anybody sat in the correct seats, and on the way back, the seat numbers didn't match the reservations. The driver...

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

According to that planner there are no First buses running anywhere in the Potteries at all after September 25th. I'm assuming that whatever new timetables they're starting from that date haven't been loaded onto the system yet, and all its showing is D&G and other operators services.

    Trivia: “Oxbow Lake” service numbers

It was in 1996 went it got changed to the X30 when it was branded as a 'City Express' route - this was when North Western were using multiple brands such as Runcorn Busways, Warrington Goldline etc. As you say though, it's not an express route. In Cheshire at least none of the old alpha...

Which local authorities do and don't put up proper bus timetables at bus stops?

Yeah, towards the end Fairbrothers were running 2 or 3 versions of the 16 on different routes and it was difficult to keep up with it, but Warrington Borough Council, as you say, weren't exactly helpful. Mind you, the fact they have a timetable from at least 3 years ago still posted shows their...

Which local authorities do and don't put up proper bus timetables at bus stops?

One of the stops round the corner from me here in Warrington still lists a service run by Fairbrothers, a company who sold out to Warrington's Own Buses nearly 3 years ago. And I'm pretty sure it was out of date even then. It's somewhat ironic considering Warrington Borough Council seem to think...

    Bus "full"

An Arriva on the 360 Warrington to Wigan passed me on the A49 out of Warrington yesterday which was showing the bus full sign. I'm assuming the driver put the wrong display up as there was only two passengers on board!!!!
