Multiple trains one after the other cancelled due to 'staff shortages'

“Fired on the spot”….are you for real? :D

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

Overtime ban also affecting some services.

Moving to GWR as a qualified driver.

Depends on the depot I guess. GWR have been recruiting indefinitely for what must be years now for talent pools in several areas.

Southern (GTR) - Trainee Train Driver (Future vacancies) - Various depots (02/06/23)

Worth reiterating also that the MMI forms part of the psychometric testing (so will. Count towards the “two lives” rule), whereas the DMI doesn’t.

Woman Gets £480 Bill For Putting Feet On Seats.

When I was RSAS accredited I hardly ever issued a PND, but to be honest, this was because the only one of much use was for Trespass on a Railway. I issued a couple of s.5 POA ones, but to be honest, if someone is at the stage whereby you’re considering this, they really should be arrested (which...

    Yes. General Safety (11.3).

Woman Gets £480 Bill For Putting Feet On Seats.

There was talk about this happening a few years ago now. It certainly makes sense for PNDs to encompass byelaw infringements, but only BTP or RSAS staff can issue these anyway.

    SWR Commercial Guard Job Application

as has been said, railway recruitment is notoriously slow at the best of times. The fact you’ve not had a rejection email is certainly positive I’d say. The initial assessment you’ve taken was a screening assessment basically, and forms part of their sifting (they’ll select the highest scoring...

Qualified Driver: TOCS that allow relocation

No, they’re expecting candidates to live within 45 mins of the depot, thus not requiring a house move. I guess it’s an extra complication if an applicant is offered a job, then their move falls through or is delayed. More time and money to re advertise the post or delay start dates etc.

    Trainee driver info

Again, we have group standards which are only group standards to suit and depending on who you speak to in occ health and which TOC you work for. Same with the prescription strength too. I have been using varifocals for the past year and was told by our Occ Health these were fine. 1706489202...

    Storm Henk travel disruption 02/01/24

There was nothing for the whole of Wessex, although there was for part of it I believe? Certainly not for the first half of the day and in to the early evening at least.

    Unspent Criminal Record

if you weren’t asked about convictions prior to being offered the job, you’re not hiding anything.

Poor pay offer to send GWR and LNER trains off the rails

The fact that inflation was twice that not long ago (probably when the negotiations started) and the fact that just because inflation has dropped doesn’t mean everyday living costs have reduced, it’s a mediocre offer at best.

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

Only ever known this during Covid, and that was for duty travel, and wholly reasonable in my opinion. 1702637493 They are stabled outside, but still within a depot. I assume the issue being that the 175s were at stations rather than within the confines of a restricted depot.

Congrats. If you want to connect, LinkedIn is a good platform to find others in the grade.

Am I being ungrateful for northern rail

If it’s a Trainee Driver post, you’d have taken psychometric testing at some point? That’s irrelevant I guess, but just trying to work out how come you didn’t do your research? I mean, you’ve gone through psychometric testing and a Driver Mananger interview where you’d have presumably asked...

    Assessments & Medicals discussion

The reason I assumed it was at their discretion, is because TOCs often don’t worry about the prescription. Mine falls outside of those parameters but I passed the eye test on the day, and they didn’t ask to see my prescription.

    Assessments & Medicals discussion

There is a technical standard of what the prescription should fall within as guidance, but as far as I’m aware, it’s at the discretion of the occ health department for the TOC/FOC. I took my prescription with me to my pre-employment medical, and they didn’t even look at it (my prescription is...

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

Yes, stations with such short platforms are local door only. Where there’s normal platforms though, we’d lock the rear coach or rear portion of the train out, so as to run normal 5 car formations etc, although we’d stop at the stop car marker relevant for the actual physical formation not taking...
