    Tall Ships Hartlepool

The Tall Ships are arriving in Hartlepool next week. Last time in 2010 there were loads of extra trains running including loco hauled shuttles. This year? Nothing that I can see. Northern just providing a normal hourly service with 2 carriage units (ok a couple of 4 car on a Saturday) that will...

    Most demeaning cascade

Interesting thread about Deltic cascading (or lack of). Back in steam days, I always found the sight of Britannias on the Marylebone to Nottingham 4 carriage semi fasts rather sad. On the other hand A4's on the Glasgow to Aberdeen expresses were a fine sight so hardly demeaning!

    Hartlepool Up Line

I've noticed that the up line through the disused platform at Hartlepool is now well rusted and becoming weed overgrown. Can't have been used for quite a while now. I thought this was a bit of a bottleneck and I believe Grand Central were making noises about regenerating the platform for...

    Strange one........

So this FRGT does the Phillips Loop and Norton East - West pathed as a Sprinter? Crew training for a new passenger service

    Grand Central Cancellation

I notice from Realtime Trains that 1A66 was terminated at Eaglescliffe this afternoon 'due to a problem with the traction equipment' The return 1N96 from Kings Cross was obviously cancelled throughout. So what happened to the defective unit and what would its movements have been from...

Easter Sunday service level vs Boxing Day service level

So, on Easter Sunday all the shops are closed and there are very few sporting fixtures and a 'normal' Sunday service runs. Boxing Day the retail world is madness and there are loads of sporting events all over the country, yet hardly any trains run.....doesn't make sense to me :|

    Durham Coast on Saturdays

So, here's me going to Hartlepool for the match, as every home game, but today a coupled up pacer and sprinter turned up. Now every Saturday, the normal 2 car Pacer or Sprinter is pretty full, and at Hartlepool the crowds of hen/stag types get on for Newcastle. There were even RPI's at...

    Durham Coast delay

    Grand Central 15/08/15

Great to see that extra trains can be run for a League 2 derby even though the direct trains take longer than the normal services! Hopefully a win win (GC and Hartlepool) :D

Interesting Observation: person dangling legs over platform edge

While waiting at a not very busy station on the Durham coast for a down train, there was someone sitting at the end of the up platform with his legs dangling over the edge, bottle in hand and carrier bag next to him. My train duly arrived and then crawled past the person sat on the up line. He...

    Kings Cross to Castleton Moor?

    Northern Rail trip

.................thanks to their generosity, I now have a free day pass. All because of a delayed train. 40 minute late for my 5 minute journey !! I'm going to take the day off work and exploit as much of their network that I can. Looking for Hartlepool - Carlisle - Leeds - York -...

    Durham coast activity

Have been away for a few weeks, but have noticed that the down loop north of Seaton Carew is rather shiney!!!:D Its been rusty for years although is fully colour signalled. Anyone any idea what has been using it? Thanks

    Daft one....

OOOP here in the north, Hartlepool in particular, we got new 'live' information boards for the Tall Ships in 2010. But why do they refer to Platform 2 which has no public access? Also the number of times the automated announcements are wrong, stating trains that have been cancelled or in the...

    North East diversions

Did I see an East Coast HST heading south on the Durham Coast line yesterday (Sunday). OK it was dark, but I'm sure it wasn't Grand Central :-?

    Hartlepool scrap trains

Anyone know anything about scrap trains on the Hartlepool power station branch? Bloke I know says he has seen a couple of trains loading with scrap from the old shipyard at Graythorp that has scrapped the 'Ghost Ships' which have been dismantled there. Where were they going?
