What makes a train look British?

For me it's a combination of things: - rarely having level boarding at stations - badly designed toilets that always smell - a bumpy ride

NetworkRail seeks Private Sector Investment for Telecomms Network

I just hope it is a proper company that wins the bidding process an not someone that will subcontract it out to someone like Sodexo

East Coast Trains: What are your hopes, fears and predictions?

I agree, I was hoping for a nice graphic render of the interiors by now. They must have a design somewhere, for the trains to be fitted out in the near ish future

    Question about planning

No problem. Level 4 means its the equivalent of first year at Uni. You can progress to a full BSc Hons if you want to like I have (depends on employer and funding)

    Question about planning

As an APM qualified project manager (same route) outside of the industry, I would say it depends what you're doing. Train planning, not really needed. Project planning, you could do really well as an assistant PM or a planner because you'll understand the wider picture 1613047286 Obviously...

Suggestions for future use of Class 332s post-HEx

Just export them somewhere. South Africa or Ireland or anywhere really. Scrap seems an environmental waste because of the damage to the environment to build them in the first place

URGENT: Suitcase stolen from lady in a wheelchair

My partner was travelling to Skegness this Afternoon (got on at Graham) with a purple suitcase. She answered the phone at Boston and someone ran off with her suitcase! Shes in an electric wheelchair so had no hope of getting it back. It had a computer inside and all her clothes for lockdown...

Bi-Mode rolling stock and passenger saloon height

I'm 6ft 4 and I've never noticed a difference. I think the IETs feel very open and modern (if you can get over the seats and leg room)

    Where could the Voyagers go?

I cant tell if Cumbria is a joke or serious? Given that the voyagers can't do Dawlish, I'm not sure running them along a costal route which at points is very close to the sea is a good idea

    Where could the Voyagers go?

Because look at the fares currently charged compared to 20 years ago. Its going to happen. An alternative interpretation would be, HS2 is going to change XCs extortionate fares and XC will lower their price to compensate. Also with regards to yield, you gain advantages from economies of scale...

    Where could the Voyagers go?

Even that assesment I still find too harsh. A fundamental part of XCs current strategy is to charge a really high price so they can actually fit everyone into a tiny and poorly designed train. So drop the price back to a sensible level and change the trains, you'll still achieve pretty good...

    Where could the Voyagers go?

You make a good argument, but I don't quite buy it. XC serve a lot of cities that won't be served by HS2. People value direct links as well, it makes them feel safer that they won't be stranded somewhere. Plus connection times are a deal breaker when it comes to changing trains and the quickest...

    Contingency Plans for Disabled Travellers

I mean the fire brigade will still say no either way. Not really a discussion. The general direction is what does a disabled person generally do in a fire at a station? In the case of Portsmouth and Southsea, I'd say use an evacuation chair to do down the stairs.

    Contingency Plans for Disabled Travellers

Read any fire evacuation plan, they tell you specifically not to use the lifts because the power can get interrupted by the fire or cut off by the fire service. You have summed very nicely why no one ever wants to stay in a burning building. A refuge is a place to rest / stop, not to wait it...

    Cheapest Possible Crossrail 2?

Personally, I think that's too optimistic. If you got rid of Waterloo and the long distance connections it brings, I think property prices would fall. So a weird paradox could exist, where its worth more by being operational than it is being decommissioned and sold.

    Contingency Plans for Disabled Travellers

I know at Aldershot station, Network rail deliberately removed the track level crossing. Meaning their is no evacuation route for PRMs (according to station staff, dont know what is more concerning - the lack of knowledge or the lack of safe routing) I still find it amazingly worrying how many...

    Cheapest Possible Crossrail 2?

This is true in the long term. However, in the short term you have to borrow in, lets say, £1 billion chunks once a year. Lets say, optimistically, the project takes 5 years. By year 5, before the project has even fully opened, your are paying interest on at least £4 billion. Apply that on a...
