    Interesting platform changes at Woking

Yes, this was happening nearly 2 weeks ago (8th May) when I travelled through Woking.

SWR showing "no tickets available" on Exeter/Waterloo trains 8 May (GWR strike day)

Thank you, it sounds like a similar thing - possibly the idea is to keep their trains from being swamped and keep some space for people joining at intermediate stations which I suppose is not wholly unreasonable. And of course they don't give a damn how many people travel, they get paid by Dft...

SWR showing "no tickets available" on Exeter/Waterloo trains 8 May (GWR strike day)

Ah many thanks, I was looking at the old site which did not seem to show anything.

SWR showing "no tickets available" on Exeter/Waterloo trains 8 May (GWR strike day)

After some advice please. I need to travel Exeter/London on 8 May. GWR and XC are both on strike so SWR via Honiton only option. SWR should be operating a near normal service but ticketing websites are not showing their trains and their own website says " no tickets available". Provided trains...

Request for help: LNER Fare Trial Ripoff

Would be most interested to know how that would work at my local station (Totnes) which is only served by "intercity style" trains (GW and XC)! Surely you are not suggesting everyone buying (say) a day return to Exeter or Plymouth be "allocated a seat". And how would you prevent them boarding a...

CrossCountry Trains advert banned over ‘insufficient’ free food and drink claims…

Absolutely my experience as well. They never ever offer sandwiches unless you ask for them. They usually have Tuna or New York deli baps - both are perfectly OK but if you don't ask you don't get!

    Caledonian Sleeper

Fair point. The railcard policy on the sleeper is quite odd, why accept 16/25 but not 26/30 railcards? They directly lost a booking from my son a few days ago because of that. I guess not accepting the 2-together railcard (except in seats) is just fear of revenue abstraction? As the whole...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Agreed that seems extortionate. However to put in in perspective in late December I booked a classic solo cabin Glasgow/Euston for 9 March - the price was £125 (I have a senior railcard). 72 hrs before travel I was invited to bid for a Seatfrog upgrade to a club solo cabin for £15 which I did...

    ASLEF strikes 5th-8th April weekend

Could anyone kindly advise me if XC are likely to be offering any kind of service from/to Banbury on Friday 5th April (full strike day)? Many thanks.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

Agreed, but it's not just infrastructure. On my trip to London last week we were spot on time and then suddenly slowed on the Westbury avoider. Looking at Traksy, a freight train running 17 mins early was sent out in front of us so we had to crawl for miles until it could be looped at...

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

The crew for that service travel down on the 1303 from Paddington to Plymouth which would appear to have been diverted via Bristol and terminated at Exeter 68 mins late so I would guess that's the reason. GWR appear to have had another challenging week, a member of my family travelled from...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I used the Seatfrog upgrade option a few days ago. I had booked Glasgow/Euston for 10 March in classic solo (£125 with railcard) a few weeks ago and then bid the minimum (£12) for an upgrade to club. Rather to my surprise this was accepted when the bidding closed 72 hrs before travel and I was...

walk up ticket “not available to buy” 5 minutes before departure

Trainsplit was happy to sell me a first advance (£73.55 with railcard) on the 1229 Reading/Totnes yesterday at 1208 - 5 mins after the train had departed Paddington.

    Avanti cancellations today (10/02/24)

Obviously I don't know where you were travelling from and to or what kind of ticket you had, but in principle should not AWC have been obligated to sort this out for you, or does the fact that you had advance notice mean it was all down to you? I'm just interested for if/when this ever happens...

    GWR Reimbursement?

Indeed and the procedure for GWR delay repay is very quick and simple on their website. The last couple of claims I have done have been paid (direct to my bank account)within 36 hrs. 100% GWR delay repay will at least recover some or most of your losses.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

I've boarded that train at Reading 3 or 4 times last year, never been a problem. Always got a single seat. Can't remember if it was a Friday though.

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

WCRC's statement from Rail Advent site https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2024/01/west-coast-railways-issues-statement-following-orr-decision-to-revoke-exemption.html WCRC's full statement reads West Coast Railways has expressed its serious disappointment that rail regulator, the Office of Rail and...

    RTT Night Riviera

Can anyone say why the sleeper passed through Totnes empty at around 1015 this morning (running to Exeter St Davids only according to RTT). There's also an STP path back at 1255 but it's not been activated yet. Thanks.

    GWR Pullman dining reinstated

I agree, for anyone travelling standard class on a walk-up ticket the 1903 was open to super off peak tickets, the 1803 requires an off peak, that's an extra £25 on a Totnes/Paddington return (with a railcard).
