Old BR ceramic jug - date/history?

Hi all, Found this jug in a charity shop recently - a black rose design on either side and a BR double arrow logo on the bottom. Any ideas when it dates from/where it might have been used? Thanks.

Anytime: London to/from Newton Abbot via...?

Quick question: with an Anytime return from Paddington to Newton Abbot can I travel out via Bristol (and break my journey there), and return via Westbury or Salisbury or Bristol, whichever takes my fancy on the day? It seems to be, looking at the routing guide and maps, but confirmation from...

London to Paignton & back - your best price please!

What's the cheapest I can get a London - Paignton return for? Probably sometime later this month/early Sept. Travelling midweek, off peak, returning midweek or maybe a Saturday, also off peak. Cheapest I can find so far is £43.75 (Anytime return, with a PRIV, route Honiton). Can anyone improve...

1980s Nostalgia: Old BR posters at Richmond

I was at Richmond today and was amazed to see some fantastic 1980s BR posters on the staircase down to Platform 1, revealed by the temporary removal of the modern advertising display cases for the walls to be painted. Quite interesting that all are for BR products/services/information and none...

A very quick question about buying tickets online

which I'm sure has been asked before but I can't remember the answer, so this may well be a duplicate thread, sorry about that. I think I know the answer anyway, but thought I would double check. I am buying some tickets for a friend on my credit card, which I will collect from my local...

Chiltern running on London Underground tracks

I travelled with Chiltern today, between Amersham and Marylebone for the first time. Which started me wondering about the track - as far as I could tell, we were running on fourth rail electrified track. Is the infrastructure owned/maintained by NR or LU, given that stations seem to be LU's...

Bill Bryson & CPRE tackle Network Rail over litter

Story here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/feb/14/bryson-railway-litter-campaign Not sure what to make of this really. Yes, litter at stations can be a problem, maybe as a result of there being no litter bins at many of them. London Bridge is the only station mentioned that I'm familiar...

'Dew on train tracks blamed for delays'

So says the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/feb/09/dew-delays-rail-service I can understand that moisture causes poor rail-head conditions, but also that passengers find such a situation ludicrous and an unbelievable excuse for late running. But what can the railway do? Year-round...

'Passengers are revolting' says head of Passenger Focus

Well, not quite. Anyway: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/dec/28/winter-proofing-rail-network-could-spark-passenger-revolt A consensus on that is unlikely I imagine. But I think it's the right question to ask, and passengers should certainly have a say. By which he seems to...

<<Bonjour mesdames et messieurs, nous avons treize heures de retard....>>

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12085167 This one's got everything: train failures, drunks, train crew working excessive hours, bad weather, line blockages....... It's like someone in control at SNCF was playing Bingo.

Orient Express Pullman carriage at the South Bank

No idea how long it's there for, but yesterday I discovered there's an Orient Express carriage (Zena) on static display on the South Bank (outside the Royal Festival Hall) which you can walk through, sit in the comfy armchairs and feel like a member of royalty for 5 minutes. Very swish!
