I don't really think Travelodges are cheap unless you are lucky, but sadly the ones that are cheap can be in terrible locations. Travelodge (and Premier Inn for that matter) are marketed as 'Budget' hotels but often the price does not match your average idea of 'budget' and likewise people think...

Stayed in the Rugby Travelodge next door to the station last weekend. It was a decent room and very clean....and cheap (makes a change). The Tesco Extra was handy as was the short stroll to the station. The downside was the dodgy characters hanging around outside Tesco extra smoking dope and...

I've stayed in a great Hotel in Beijing several times and dispite being down a dark alley way, my room has always overlooked the throat of the main Beijing Station (the old one) and the remains of the City Walls. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiseman2007/3589215705/in/set-72157621001762762...

    Marooned!!

I rember once, going on a Railtour with my Grandma from Newcastle to Fort William. The train broke down in the middle of nowhere and we had to wait for hours with no lighting or heating until the replacement loco turned up. Too young to appreciate the class 37 haulage too!

    Marooned!!

Ciera Nad' Tisau (or however its spelt) Barrack Town in Slovakia near to the border with Ukraine. Got off a train from Kosice expecting to get a train to Chop in Ukraine in the middle of Winter to find I had worked out the trains wrong and the one I expected was a Summer only service...

    Banter!

There is a Northern Guard who makes pretty amusing bi-lingual announcements in the North East....I remember being on a train one time and after every station that the guard stated during his announcement the driver made a Yoda style noise which tickled me too

So just what is YOUR main interest in Railways?

I fancy India, but I think it might be a while before I can do it due to being married to a foreign national and being tied to trips to her Country or to day trips to Belgium, France or Holland at the moment! I also fancy Pakistan and Bangladesh too and also Myanmar. India and Pakistan may be...

So just what is YOUR main interest in Railways?

My interest is quite broad and mainly involves taking point and shoot photos, traveling about and in recent years after growing bored with the UK scene and leaving the hobby a couple of times I have started to have a much more avid interest in foreign stuff mainly European and Asian railways...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I think anyone knows who I'm on about! anyway, traincrew (I'm a member of traincrew too) do have a lot to put up with, all of what you have said and a lot more too! I was just a bit miffed that the trolley only came down once on my outward train, a train that was reasonably quiet, with a few...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I'm tempted to write them an email too, but I feel that would be a wee bit cheeky as I was on a PRIV and that notorious Newcastle Guard was resonably polite to me! :D

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

My phropechy about standard class catering facilities going downhill came true on Wednesday when I travelled Newcastle to Kings Cross and the Trolley only came down once and that the Buffet's till machine was'nt working and every purchase had to be hand written on a recipt book. However the...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

sounds like it is just as bad as I thought. I have concerns that due to the complementary food being advertised as an 'offer' (station announcements) which suggests that its not permanant, so maybe when they realise they are loosing money they may restrict it or even curtail it. I also feel...
