Double red lines in roads outside of London?

You can stop on double yellows with loading restrictions for the purpose of picking up / dropping off a passenger, whereas you can’t on red lines (unless for a blue badge holder, licensed taxi/private hire, bus at designated bus stop or other authorised vehicle)

Double red lines in roads outside of London?

Red lines indicate no stopping. The exceptions being a bus at a bus stop, or a blue badge holder / taxi for the purpose of dropping off or picking up authorised passengers. Local authorities (including TfL) may also issue permits allowing vehicles to stop and/or park for other reasons. Yellow...

Double red lines in roads outside of London?

Solihull has also had “red routes” for at least 20 years.

    7 seat cars

When I was younger I remember a friend of my dad having a Volvo that had an extra two seats in the boot that could fold up and down to allow the boot to be used to convey extra passengers or used as storage as required. I think he called it a Stationwagon.

Most exotic licence plate personally spotted on UK road

See Kingdom of Saudi Arabia cars around central London quite often. A few hundred meters from my house is an RAF station that is leased to the US air force, I regularly see a vintage US car (left hand drive) with US number plates (can’t remember what/if any state); something really unique like...

Parking advice - travelling from Bristol to St Pancras in December

lckenham is cheaper than Hillingdon anyway (except on weekends and bank holidays when it’s the same price). lt’s not even 5 minutes further off the A40, except during the evening peak when it can easily take an extra 15 Mins.

    Taxis registered in Wolverhampton.

Wolverhampton also has an English language assessment which is easier to pass when compared to others, such as TfL.

ULEZ - Plans (and would you have to pay?)

My council has said that "The council did not permit or enter into an agreement with Sadiq Khan or Transport for London to install signage or cameras in the borough. The Mayor instead resorted to using powers under the Greater London Authority Act (GLA) 1999 to directly erect this equipment" so...

ULEZ - Plans (and would you have to pay?)

I crossed the "border" when driving a few times this morning; my area is one that has quite a few roads that are within Greater London but to which the Ulez doesn't apply. It's my understanding that the boundary of the Ulez is now the same as the Lez which has been in place for over 15 years...

Park Royal car accident - driver charged

What I don’t understand which doesn’t seem to have been picked up on, is this road has average speed cameras, so if he was driving at that speed, he would have been caught and issued a summons. Whilst average speed cameras would have been unlikely to have recorded his speed at 110mph; he...

Warning Ducks, and other strange roadsign?

I saw this sign on the A4 Portway in Bristol a few years ago. Unofficial of course but at least it was made to look slightly legitimate. There were numerous sightings and stories of what people were calling the Bristol Crocodile, of course many experts pointed out that in the British climate it...

Tesco Charging £120 "Deposit" on Petrol Sales

Not sure why this has become “news” again all of a sudden - this has been commonplace on Visa and Mastercard transactions for several years now. An independent petrol station near me has just had Pay At Pump fitted in the past few weeks - they go for the USA approach whereby you specify the...

    Cars and owner stereotypes

I can vouch for this - my parents own a Prius and when my dad is driving alone he has had a number of people try and open the back door thinking he is a private hire vehicle.

Why doesn't London has different kinds of taxis?

They do, but it is denoted by the colour of the badge held by the driver (matched up with the permit displayed in the window of the vehicle), rather than the actual colour of the vehicle itself. Green badge holders can ply anywhere in Greater London, whereas Yellow (suburban) badge holders can...

ULEZ Expansion (and being forced into changing cars).

Given the wait for new cars being experienced by all main manufacturers most people ordering new cars now wouldn't expect to be receiving them before the Ulez extension starts anyway.

Park Royal car accident - driver charged

It isn’t a UK number plate and isn’t recognised on the UK gov MoT Test/VED checker.

Park Royal car accident - driver charged

Indeed - a man on my street has a car with a German number plate and has had it for the 4 years I’ve lived in the house and based upon Streetview images has had it for at least 8 years, despite you only being allowed a foreign registered car for 6 months unless you meet a limited criteria which...

Ultra Low Emissions Zone to cover all of London

Especially in a market where even for a basic, conventional fossil fuel powered car, you could be easily waiting all of that time if you ordered one today. 1669744418 I believe the expanded Ulez area is the same (or if not, it is very similar) having compared the maps for the as the current Low...

Where is the operation boundary of London Taxis?

There is a big shortage of the cheaper private hire vehicles with many drivers having left the industry at the start of the period of government restrictions due to Covid. I was at Gatwick airport at 01.30 last week and there were simply no private hire vehicles available on the Freenow app...

Park Royal car accident - driver charged

That stretch of the A40 already has average speed cameras, which are quite good and the average standard of driving has definitely improved on that road, and the North Circular, since they were installed. Judging by the number of people who however apply brakes when going under the yellow...
