Good evening all

I've just boarded the 23:17 Horwich Parkway to Manchester Victoria stopper, and a 158 showed up on it. Is it usual for this to be worked by a 158, and if it is, how long has this been the case?

Cannot answer directly, but the last two services from York to Blackpool North have no booked passenger return services from Blackpool to York. So, using a 158 on a Blackpool - Manchester service might be a convenient way to get a Class 158 from Blackpool to Newton Heath depot ??

Yes a 158 is the booked traction for that service (22:20 ex Blackpool North). The 22:22 Manchester Victoria-Blackpool North is also booked a 158 it evens out a stock imbalance and has been allocated a 158 for around 1 year.

Indeed. A 3-car 158 is booked on the 22.22 Man Vic-Blackpool and the 22.20 is booked for a 2-car 158. This is for start of service the next day.

Its a shame they can't use some of the daytime diagrams between Vic-Blackpool with 2/3 car 158s, especially the peak ones, or the diagrams once covered by 180s.

I believe the stock imbalance is at Blackpool North for one of the early-morning trains to York.

Yorkshire Rail won't have that ;)

Never mind Yorkshire - the 158s are the only decent stock East Lancashire ever gets! If Greater Manchester wants 'em let GMPTE pay for 'em! :D

I couple of years back I was getting this train from Vic - Bolton.

It was a 142 leading a 3 coach 158. Lo and behold, the 158 was locked out and everyone was crammed into the pacer....
