Not if you have a savvy passenger. In act changing the responsibility for paying tolls from the driver to the passenger enhances safety
I think post #29 means "when driving a RHD car on your own".
Over the past four decades, I have driven LHD and RHD cars across mainland Europe and the RHD ones have been a pain when I have driven solo.

Back to the OP: "What is the point of cars with only two doors into the passenger compartment? Are they a lot cheaper?"
I'm surprised no mention yet of Jaguar's XJ-S / Rolls Royce's Silver Shadow Coupe and its less-known Camargue. All were "true" 2-door with a boot cars. A lot cheaper? Heck, no!

OT but yesterday, locally, I spied and photo'd a RR Silver Spur Centenary. Some of you will know the Centenary was built as a one off, to commemorate RR's 100,000th produced car and the centenary of the British motor industry.
RR built 25 "production" Centenary copies - with the wording on the boot lid. 9 were sold to UK owners and the remaining 16 went iverseas. The one I saw, I suspect was one of those 9; still, it was a truly beautiful car.

I saw a clip the other day on a car review site that asked what is the cheapest 2/3 door new car that the VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) make.

The answer is a Porsche Cayman base model at £54k!

2 door: yep, the Cayman. The 718 Boxster list price starts at £1k more.
3 door: a VW dealer pre-registered, unsold, Up will probably clinch it.

Indeed, that's why I stated a dealer pre-registered unsold one. Have to twist the rules :D

Ah. Cheat. But given how popular they are, I doubt there will be any pre-reg unsold.
Not even the Yorkshire version (E-up! ;) )

The choice of cars with two passenger side-doors is limited, the Fiat 500 car with two-doors + hatchback door is the only one I can think of, The Fiat 500 is a cute car and great fun to drive!

A lot of them seem to have a fault which makes them go 75% of the way around a roundabout from the left hand lane though!

Still quite a few available to buy new... you just need a few quid! Aston Martin, Lotus, Porsche etc will happily give you two/three doors, but even the "cheapest" Land Rover Defender 90 is going to set you back nearly £60k new, and BMW's cheapest of their various models is the 2 Series Coupe starting from just under £40k!

Back to reality, in terms of the sort of new cars available at a more normal price point, you're probably not far wrong in terms of new cars. The only other one I could think of off the top of my head was the MINI Cooper which, even in its most recent generation, can still be had as a three door. A quick Google also found the Toyota Yaris, but the catch is that's only for the 'GR' version which starts at £44k, compared with £23k for the standard 5 door. There was also the Citroen Ami electric quadricycle that came up, but I'm not sure I've ever seen one of those on the road (it sort of looks like a large mobility scooter).

I knew a lot of manufacturers had cut out three door options from their models, such as the Kia Picanto and Vauxhall Corsa which are now solely five doors, and some small cars that offered the option (such as the Citroen C1/Peugeot 108) discontinued completely within the last three years or so. But I hadn't quite appreciated just how few "normal" cars there are left still available with three doors. Even the iconic Smart car is now a small range of five door vehicles!

We have a Defender 90 D350 which is a lovely vehicle. Although very impractical for an imminent new arrival to the family! We’ll upgrade to the 110 or get a Velar for the extra doors when we can.

In the past, yes, a saving when a model was offered in two-door or four-door variations, or hatchbacks in three or five-door variations.
It is a possibility ,the engineers have enhanced their manufacturing skills, they can "press and punch " sheet metal so cheaply and efficiently , the cost of the additional panels of the extra doors are no longer a significant cost.
The Dacia Sandero , a very low-cost car, yet reliable and trustworthy, according to a friend in car retailing, is a five-door, no economy measures such as a three-doors even for such a modest car
Another factor there can be the production line costs. Although a 4/5-door car might cost slightly more to make than a 2/3-door car all other things being equal, but it may be that the cost of making two different designs and two different tooling lines is more than the saving from having a slightly cheaper production cost.

(In a similar way to how base model cars often have some features fitted but then disabled by software, because it's cheaper to include the features in all models but then turn it off for people buying the cheap ones)
