Oh this is wonderful

Donald Trump’s belated “concession” to a peaceful and orderly transition of power after the storming of the US Capitol has provoked anger and conspiracy theories among some of his most ardent followers.

For some of those who flocked to social media channels and chatrooms like Parler and 4chan, where far-right Trumpists have gravitated, as other social media sites have increasingly shut out Trump, some were complaining of betrayal.

Trump, claiming he was “outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem” of the Capitol siege that he incited, said those who “broke the law will pay” in a move perhaps designed more to protect himself from mounting legal and political hazard than reflecting a newfound sense of contrition and integrity.

This promoted an outpouring of anger and grief and denial from his hardline acolytes. “A punch in the gut,” said one. “A stab in the back” another railed. From a third: “I feel like puking.”

A widely shared screengrab summed up the sentiment of this group. “He says it’s going to be wild and when it gets wild he calls it a heinous attack and middle-fingers to his supporters he told to be there.”

Others turned to conspiracy theories, not least in the dark corners of the online world of 4chan and Parler, where the cult of QAnon holds sway. Many in these places saw not a Trump concession forced on him by his dangerous and insurrectionary behaviour, but either a “deep fake” video concocted by Trump’s enemies, or they scoured for evidence of secret messages that indicated Trump was still on track to deliver on QAnon’s deranged promises.

“FAK fake fake He’s been locked out of his Twitter he can’t get into it he couldn’t get into it he couldn’t get into today it’s been closed out for ever,” opined someone called Magafree, while Brenda amplified the theory. “He has a plan here President Trump would not back down that easily. We need to stand strong, keep watch and pray. Something big is coming and Gid [God] is going to see it through.”

But the reactions of the more mainstream parts of the Trump-era echo chamber have been the most instructive. Sites such as Breitbart and the Daily Caller appear to have swung into line behind an emerging Republican consensus that has become increasingly hostile to Trump, blaming him not only for the storming of Congress, but also for delivering the presidency, the House of Representatives, and, on Tuesday, the Senate to the Democrats.

Breitbart’s main story on Trump’s concession video was delivered in a relatively straight way, although the site tried to spin it as a Trump “change of tone”, suggesting all he had done was “return to his campaign theme of law and order”.

The comments below were, however, rather less mannered and careful. “There will NEVER be ‘reconciliation’,” wrote Freedomring17. “We have irreconcilable differences, and the fight has just begun. We need to disown the RNC until they support the Patriot party.”

For “NMP” the consequence was obvious and Trump part of the problem. “He could have declared martial law, like Flynn said, instead he got patroits [sic] to show their face and they did and now they know who they are looking for.”

For the bitter-enders, like TrumpSupporterLTD, the sentiments were much like the QAnon crowd over on 4chan – an almost metaphysical belief that Trump, despite the wealth of evidence, continues to move in mysterious ways

“Trump did not concede. He used language to buy a little extra time because the senators and congressmen who support him are being threatened with dirty bombs and their families’ lives by the Deep State and/or communist Chinese … I have it on good grounds that Trump will be moving with the military And regarding the transition to a new administration, means Trump with a new VP Pence is obviously a traitor and is ‘fired’.”

Although there's a lot of talk from Sturgeon about him not being allowed to do it, if he lands while he's still US president I'm unsure what she or the Scottish authorities can do. They're certainly not going to escort AF1 off the coast with a squadron of Typhoons, that's for sure.
That is a pity :'(.

At least they can force him to quarantine and have a Covid-19 test. Wearing a gag mask in the meantime.

He is of Scottish descent is he not ?. Perhaps he is going into exile -I know he owns a nature reserve golf course on the Ayrshire coast. In which case roll on Scottish independence <D. With all due respect to Scots.

Can't we stop anyone from entering our shores/airspace without permission, isn't that why a lot of wars have been fought?

And entirely predictable. I've watched his speech a couple of times and it was a pure canned teleprompter message which was obviously something he was reading in order to save his own bacon. He didn't believe or care about a single word of any of it but his cult followers were always going to be disappointed / angered by him and what he read.

They do seem to be very surprised that someone who’s been throwing people under the bus for the last four years for his own gain has now thrown them under the bus.

What follows is purely hypothetical.

You are correct that they could not stop Air Force one from entering Scottish airspace, since defence is not a devolved power. However, Prestwick Airport is run by the Scottish government, and so they could deny landing if they were so intended. At that point, AF1 could divert to a military-controlled airfield (e.g. Leuchars). That would get the orange one on the ground, but it wouldn't get him to Turnberry. Police Scotland would have the power to stop him leaving the airfield, but it's a tossup what would happen if the army/RAF regiment attempted to escort him off site.

Surely this is what “taking back control” was all about?! :D

Surely, since we left Europe, the Orange one is entitled to think we are now almost part of America :s.

I would hope that our esteemed leader would not want him on UK soil given what he caused in America, but then Boris is an incompetent fool so nobody knows. Maybe he's be welcome in Russia, I no a bloke called Vlad that would put him up!

I think there's a strong possibility he will set up his own party - "Greater America" or something similar - and run for President in 2024 under that ticket. You would like to think he won't get anywhere, but who knows!

That being the case, he could buy the rights to an old advertising slogan that would be a perfect fit...

"The future's bright, the future's orange".... :)

Maybe Sturgeon should be getting her officials to scour the records for any revenue he may owe or any by-law he may have broken and threaten him with arrest if he sets foot outside of the air force base. He will have needed to take a test before entry, cast doubt on its validity, make him take a PCR test, quarantine him in some dodgy hotel, tv playing the Biden inauguration on a loop. Tell him that protesters will be made well aware of when he is coming out of quarantine, by then he won't be Mr President.

I've found a story from February
Scotland's first minister has been urged to use unexplained wealth orders to investigate how Donald Trump paid for his Scottish golf resorts.
Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie said the US Congress had heard concerns about possible money laundering involving some of the president's business deals.

May be some truth in it, maybe not (Eric says it has "no basis in fact", which I think is Trump for it is absolutely true); if Trump lands, launch an investigation!

Just make his life difficult

I was going to dismiss that as he likes McDonalds but I've scanned through the reviews (Trip Advisor: 2.5/5), looks like just the sort of place to send him (all last year):

"Rude staff mocking me as I left after being refused service because my mask didn't cover my whole face. I explained that I was asthmatic."

"...extremely busy with long queues for the drive through and queues outside the restaurant. "

"just came back from mcdonalds and ordered takeaway and half my food isn't there"

"Place is terrible, charge you for large meals and everytime there’s Half a poke of chips, charge you for bags even though they’re paper, charge you for dips you don’t order. Shop full of young uninterested students."

Yes, masks - strictly enforce his wearing of face masks, monitor him every second! Fines paid in cash!!

We don't need to tell him that Vlad doesn't like losers, we'll just let him find that out when he gets there...

Oh gosh, horrible thought. Biden's inauguration will be Trumps last chance to cause a scene.

It should have been me. Your all fake. I won and you stole it from me. (keep on digging !).
Trump has now used Twitter, now that he's back on it again, to say that he won't be attending the inauguration.
To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.

Was going back over my post at #840

Watch him not bother with the established traditions in coming weeks and months. No concession call to Biden, no pre-transition meeting at the WH, no attending of the inauguration (though for obvious reasons that won't be huge event this time around), no waving to the new president + family as he leaves the WH in the helicopter. I think he'll leave via a side entrance and skulk off. That'll be it.

No concession call - check
No pre-transition meeting - check
No attending of the inauguration - now check

Not a betting man but beginning I'd wish to put an accumulator on these things, could have taken you all out for a virtual pint and had money over for a chippy tea

Biden should invite all the living Presidents (of which he will be the second oldest), mention something about bringing the country together. Make Trump out to be the spoiled brat that he is. I am hoping that the more the average Republican sees of Trump the loser, the more that they might realise that it is time to move on

Google is your friend.

Couldn't have written it without bing translate, did translate the Russian back to English to make sure it still made sense.

I've had a recurring dream/nightmare for at least the last two years which consists of a besuited (sometimes beovercoated) Trump being 'assisted' down the steps of the Capitol building by burly, white, black-suited gentlemen in their 40s and 50s, having refused to quit the building voluntarily. Having said that, I don't consider it beyond the bounds of possibility that he barricades himself in somewhere (maybe with certain members of his family) and it ending in a degree of violence, with a real possibility that Trump, like Hitler, ends his own life by gunshot, thus no doubt perpetuating the theory amongst a rabid mob that 'the Establishment' assassinated him.
