Hasn't it started yet?
The first unit from Goole is making quite good progress, with the DM visible.
I would assume proper work at Goole would've only started once they'd made any final changes to the design from testing the prototypes, as it's much more convenient to test those when they're coming out of the pre-established Vienna factory.
Once this unit is tested to ensure the final design works properly, production will likely ramp up.
Just my guesses.

Saw it outside the shed at Northfields today. It's been moved to bay 2 or 3.
Possibly getting ready for some testing this weekend with the 4 days of closures along the Uxbridge branch?

Not even in Vienna factory?
TfL and Siemens need type approval for serial production to start. Once testing is finished and both parties are satisfied with the units and have agreed on any changes to include in the series-produced units, it will begin. Serial production can’t start if TfL and Siemens are still trying things out as you need the definitive trains to have the right changes implemented, if any.

How close is type approval? They've been doing extensive testing at Wildenrath for multiple years now

Oh that’ll be interesting because surely it won’t be related to track or platform upgrades since that’s already been done so maybe they could start testing them on the line I’ve also seen that the Northfields to Cockfosters testing is going to start this summer

Somewhere, not in London
Type acceptance also depends very heavily on the client not changing their mind on what they want, and agreeing even with themselves what they actually do want.

I assume type acceptance would need to be completed before the trains could enter passenger service?
In London yes.
Some networks like the New York City Subway have a period of running with passengers as part of the testing program of new stock.

Seems strange as an outsider that type acceptance hasn't happened yet, is it running late?

It’s a process that usually takes time (sometimes several years as the Class 701 debacle has shown us, although this is an extreme example).

Beauty and the beast? (Not saying which one is which....)

I think they're both lovely trains. The TS73 stock was the final successful evolution that started with the TS38 stock and was by far the best of the 70s and 80s tube stock. It's looking a bit dated now but then I always preferred them silver with the little red warning panel, the LO livery doesn't do them justice.
The TS24 is also a fantastic-looking train and looks as futuristic now as the trains they are replacing looked when first introduced in 1975. Far better than the somewhat functional-looking TS95/96/09 and S-stock designs all of which seem to have aged quickly.

I agree entirely with you here except for partially on the S Stock comment.
From the inside they look a bit dated thanks to the odd lighting fittings and colours but on the outside especially the front they look like they could have entered service many years after they actually did (latest probably 2018).
In comparison though the NTFL looks considerably more futuristic and sleek.

To me the light design and curviness makes s stock look like a late 00’s design. I think something from the late 10’s would take advantage of led lighting more. But then adventras also use circular headlights. I don’t think the new stock has aged badly, maybe because I mainly use the tube for trains. But 83ts didn’t look modern to me in 97, although at that time I was only 3 years old. I remember the jubilee looking new though and the d stock seeming ancient, looking even older than c stock. To me the 96 stock doesn’t look old but the plastic and way certain things are fitted like the windows from the inside, doors and rubber trimming looks less refined than on a newer train and than s/09 stock.

24ts is also heavily a 10’s design. I wonder what would be different if it was designed today.
