In my sig, you'll see my blog, about a Charity Challenge I've been planning.
Well, it's planned now! There's a new post in the blog giving the details.
I was just wondering if someone in the know would mind having a look at the trains I'm hoping to use and let me know a fairly accurate mileage figure?
The ones I have are from the TSO Summer timetable...

Oh, and if you happen to have a few quid burning a hole in your pocket, you might like to pop over to my Just Giving page? ;)

Thanks!

Just a quick BUMP to ask a routing question.

If I go Euston to Man Pic via Stoke, and then return via Preston, BNS and Rugby, am I right in thinking that I do not cover the same stretch twice at any point north of Rugby?

And I'm still collecting! ;)

Well for your original query which i didn't personally see at the time you posted it, i personally use the website http://www.mscs.dal.ca/~butler/miles1.lst as I find it very easy to use.

If you use the ctrl+f (find) function on internet explorer and simply type the name of the station you need mileages from, it makes the process alot easier.

If you find that your mileage needs to be calculated using more than one "section" on the website, e.g. Manchester Piccadilly to Bolton, simply calculate as far as you can in the first section (in this case until Salford Crescent) and make a note of the different numbers next to Salford Crescent, whch refer to the onward sections- type section xxx into your find function, until you find the one which is relevant to your route.

That is correct. The Stoke line runs from Colwich to Cheadle Hulme, meaning that the furthest south you can travel on the WCML from Preston is Stafford without re-doing the line. The Wolves line branches from Stafford, avoiding this problem. Rugby will see you rejoin the WCML, and as such, redoing the line.

Thanks Pumbaa.
I've had a response from Guinness which says that they won't recognise this as a record. It seems they are only interested in world records rather than country-specific ones. So I think I might claim an unofficial one :D
Does anyone know of someone who has done more than 1380 miles in 24 hours, without backtracking?

It all kicks off tonight guys!
Yes, once the 23.51 (the fGW beds) from Plymouth to Paddington starts rolling, I'll be up and down the UK rail network for a whole 24 hours.
Please spread the word if you can, I'd be very grateful!
