GEC/BRELs' late eighties electric technology really isn't standing up to the tests of time at the moment, what with reports that the class 91s reliability is beginning to drop again as well...

It's almost like you can't make a joke in this place...

Wonder how long it'll be until NR bans them from the WCML for suffering from spontaneous combustion like they did Steam on the ECML.

Anyone got the mean times/miles between failure for the 90s, and the81/82/83/84/85/86/87/91/92, on a say 3yr rolling average? Sorry, just interested in the statistic.

I am told it was a traction motor fire, not the innards, this time. So possibly 044 could be made good with a traction motor from 042? Make two bad locos into one good one?

About time these skoda crates were banned ala ECML teapots isn't it

"Teapots" successfully ran the network from inception to the late 1960's.

Late 1980's electric junk is struggling to make 25 years.

Which is the more successful technology? <D

This sucsessful technology is Silicon based control systems that are much more efficent bus move on quickly in technology terms so rarely get replaced like for like. And tend to degrade severely after 20 years of hard operation.
