All those waiting for G9/8 Edinburgh, I waited 6 months on the reserve list before finally being offered my role as a G9 at Edinburgh, and I’m currently at week 6 at IST right now. I gave up hope after 4 months and that feeling when I finally got the offer was one I’ll never forget. So don’t give up hope, as somebody else said above being put on the reserve list usually ends up as good news. Good luck to all, and hopefully see you at the Edinburgh ROC in the future.
Thanks very much. How quick was the process when you were called up. Also, were are you doing your course?

Basic understanding is that they don't have a position straight away but if one pops up in 12 months, I should get offered the job.

There is many people in this thread that have had similar experiences, I have a mate who go the call after 6 months and is now in IST.

So there is hope
Hi Zack, although not perfect, I reckon that is great news mate being put in the talent pool for 12 months. The same happened to me but I only got put in for 6 months. I still got the welcome call last month though and I'm awaiting my medical so I'm very hopeful for you.

I hope you get the chance pal, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya.

I got the call in early October and it was all pretty fast from there. I started the beginning of January, so only a few months wait. I’m currently doing IST at Shettleston.
Hi mate, how are you finding your IST, is it challenging? Hopefully educational but easy preferably! I bet it's pretty challenging.

Yeah mate, got the fingers crossed, seems like there is alot of us for edinburgh in the same boat so could point to a waiting game or they could've just put us all in pool and pick people with the best scores.

Hi mate, congratulations. It’s very challenging with new information being piled on top of you every single day. However, I am enjoying it as I love engaging my brain and learning new things. The group I am with are also a good bunch which definitely helps I think. Hopefully manage to keep going how I started and finish with no issues. You do really have to put the work in though, I will say that. I am constantly going to bed or walking around the hotel or even my house at weekends when I’m home, going over all the stuff I learned that week. The brain rarely stops from it all. It’ll all be worth it though.

Standard questions really.
Why do you want to work for NR as a signaller?
What do you know about NR?
then comp questions.
and senario question lastly.
What kind of comp questions did they ask you, Zack? I'm just wanting to be prepared as possible for the assessment interview, next week.

Sorry to hear you were put into talent pool, by the way. Fingers crossed you get selected for a role sooner rather than later! I've applied for Perth G2 Trainee, so wondering if we in the same boat up here...

You need to be prepared with multiple answers for all 8 of the Non Technical Skills. I had a sheet of paper with me for my interview with words that provided me with reminders if I was ever stuck and trying to give an example from my previous employment.

Don't worry about the role play part of the interview. It is all common sense and straight forward.

Just focus on providing quality examples for the 8 non technical skills and it helps if you also link them to being safe and following the correct protocols at all times.

Thanks for your reply, It's very helpful. I'm not worried about the role play part of the interview, I'm usually good at those however it's the 'Describe to me a time when xxx' that unravels me. So far I've done 1-2 examples for each of the 8 NTS. I will go back and try to link them with protocols/safety. Thanks again! Also congrats on your recent offer!

No problem at all. I remember the feeling getting that met the standard required but unfortunately email. Equally the phone call 6 months later was well worth all the hard work I put into my application and interview, as well as the months of hope.

IST is going well so far, but it is a hard course. More for me in terms of being away from home and my family. The course itself has LOADS of information, but if you put in the work, it isn’t hard as such. I’m not suggesting it’s easy by any stretch, but put the work and effort in and you’ll be rewarded. If you don’t have family or kids, I imagine it being a lot easier, because I miss my Daughter like mad every single week. As stated previously, I know it will all be worth it in the end though.

I think you'll get the call at some point, I really do. It happened to me and the wording, plus length of your talent pool admission was better than the one that I received.......and I still got the call.

That's brilliant mate, I'd be the same as you with going over stuff constantly, it must be hard during training to switch off. You sound like you're putting in the hard yards though which will help you in the long run. It will be worth it in the long run pal, keep it up!

I didn't get shortlisted for Bristol area due to distance, so I've emailed them today to ask them to transfer my application to Cardiff.

Can anyone tell me the link structure for Cardiff, where vacancies are if any? Presumably they're all in WROC? Do they work 8s or 12s?

Thanks all
Sorry to repeat just wondering if anyone can answer this please?

Thank you

Thanks for this info.

Do you know what rosters are like for the Lincoln area boxes above?

I believe the LSCC is 7 to 7 12hr shifts and 24/7.

Are the other boxes similar and 24hr and any info on weekends also?

I ask as I will have to apply for a box if successful with IST just wanted to prepare. Thanks again

Well done.

Yes, LSCC is a 24/7 location on a 12-hr roster 0700 - 1900 - 0700 pattern. I don't much about their base roster though.

I'll sort the information about the other boxes and get back to you.

Yeah it’s impossible to switch off. Even at weekends when they tell you that you should, I find myself walking around the house with the Rule Books on my phone going over stuff I want to cement that I maybe didn’t quite get at first. Don’t get me wrong, I still make as much time as possible for my Wife and Daughter, but they both know how important this is and support me.

It does take its toll, for instance class was 09:00-15:30 today, which means up around 07:30 breakfast and organised for class. I have now sat the past hour or so doing stuff in the hotel since I got back. I plan to work until 18:00, grab dinner and then do some more work 19:30-21:00 before heading to bed as I’m up early for my morning sim session tomorrow. The hard work does tire you out, but as mentioned before it will 100% be worth it. GL to yourself when you finally get to IST.

PS I’m just having a wee 10 min break because otherwise I wouldn’t be taking any information in.

Crikey mate, you are working your nuts off and fair play to you. Like you say though, it will all be worth it. I remember the two girls who interviewed me last year, they both said it will take over your life for three months but that the hard work will pay off.

A few people on here say that you need to graft through the week and try and switch off on a weekend. That's not straightforward though as you'll be keen to try and master everything so will spend every minute trying to do so. It's good that your missus and your daughter are supportive, my missus is the same and my kids have grown up now so are right behind me.

Thanks for the well wishes mate, I can't wait to get going! Keep up the hard work and keep smashing it!

No, it’s for Sleaford. My start date is end of April
Oh nice, Congrats. I don’t suppose you can remember any of the questions for the online interview? I’m applying for the Derby role and I’m at the online interview stage.

Yeah you have to put the hard work in. I am a believer that you get out what you put into something.

Switching off at the weekend is also important, however I have only fully switched off for 1 weekend maybe 2. I always think of a few bits from the week at least. It just pops into my head and I can’t help it. Even just sitting watching tv with the family, I’ll start going over bits in my head but still be here watching with them, it’s mad. Fully taken over my life, but only short term. I still spend good quality time with them when I’m home for the weekends though.

You’ll love it when you start as it is actually loads of fun, despite being hard work. If you want to sit and try and learn anything before IST, take the advice of people here and only learn the bell codes for classes of train if anything. Everything else makes sense and is explained as you do the course. We got given sheets on our 2 weeks e-learning of a list of bell codes prior to IST. I learnt the whole list basically minus a few, only to forget half, if not more as you have so much else to learn. The bell codes naturally slot in when they are required, so don’t worry about them. Just a tip as I know some people want to try and learn as much as possible. Just trust the course and you’ll be fine.

You'll know yourself how things are going during your course and what extra work is required.
I kept my weekends as family time and only did revision on the weekend between week 8 and 9 as the content and difficulty really ramped up in week 7 and 8 and I felt that I needed to give myself a little extra time to bed the information in.

The course isn't difficult per se, it is just a lot of information - especially at the end.

Questions

I have an interview booked for Thursday 06/03 for a G2 trainee signaller position at Dundee.
I have a few questions -

- Does the fact I don’t have a full driving license put me at any disadvantage? (Despite me living very close to the place I’ll be at) will I likely be based in Dundee for a while due to the fact I’m a Trainee?

- How many positions are available for this role at my location?

- How many people get to Assessment Centre Interview stage ?

Many thanks!
(P.s - if anyone is able to give me a more in depth explanation to what the Feedback report says - can you DM me.) - thank you vm!
