I'm quite glad the 18th May has finally been and gone as I was getting a bit bored of all the non-standard (i.e. every station did it their own way!) messages about the timetables changed in Yorkshire. I half suspect most people turned up for trains this morning still blissfully unaware!

I took this one at Sowerby Bridge on the 1st August last year.

Awesome!

Cross Gates does this as well... and other stations in West Yorkshire :/

Not sure if it's worse than the ones in Greater Manchester that completely fail to warn you of passing trains.

Aye, Moorthorpe had it as well the other day

Visiting Shrewsbury on the 1st March, it was nice to see "Happy St David's Day" on one of the rotations, in both English and a dying language

Ah yes, you may have forgotten how your kin have been trying to kill it for the last few hundred years.

How absurd.

At Garforth last Friday, our train was advertised as "Passing train". As we crossed over the bridge and were about to exit the station, the sign changed to advertise our train, which by that time was probably at East Garforth!

If you ever wonder why passengers ignore signs, that's because they're not always right!

Not sure if any other stations do this but at Manchester Piccadilly the platform information screens show ECS workings (especially Virgin Trains) as Empty to Depot as the destination

Same thing shows up on the platform screens at Liverpool Street. I think its more to stop people trying to board the train on Platform x because their train is normally on Platform x.

Those display boards don't do apostrophes then?!!

I've seen it done in France too, although I think this was specially done as a train terminates 5 minutes before the hourly Paris fast service uses the same platform.

There's at least one four letter code on the Banlieuie which can be seen at places like St Cloud and La Defense towards St Lazare in the morning peak which will raise a few smiles... PUBE.

At both Manchester Piccadilly and London Liverpool Street, all ECS trains have to be dispatched by platform staff via R or RA indication. Empty To Depot is shown on the departure board with a time so dispatchers can see which train is ECS and the time it is booked to leave

Gets on my right wick that does, TPX can surely put the proper name on there! Following on from the announcing the Olympics thing, I remember being on a 143 waiting for departure time from platform 1 at Bristol Temple Meads and hearing on the PA the announcement London were to host the 2012 Games.

Like the shot of the PIS for Yorkshire Day on this thread, at least the Almighty chose the right side of the Pennines! ;) Need to get back to Yorkshire, it's been way too long since I was last up there!

I happened to be at Huddersfield for a very early train and the screen was advertising a departure to "Empty Stock". Guards self despatch at Huddersfield so not sure why that would be on there.

Today I saw the PIS at Bath showing a service to Salisbury via Salisbury (9:07)

Must have been a Waterloo bound service but was terminating at Salisbury due to the bank holiday or something

Departure board today at Richmond Station. Engineering works had closed the line between here and Feltham, so most of the destinations were showing a "Please Enquire" message next to them, many of those requiring a replacement bus to another station to pick up another train, so only display the available through destinations and have info about engineering works on there (an LCD display below these did have the info though).
Included in the list are a few stations that are only served by three through trains per day: Bagshot, Camberley, Frimley, Ash Vale and Aldershot are the ones served by the 0754, 1723 and 1823 to Aldershot. Is there really any point in including them?
Also note the bug where any LO services not doing the full route to Stratford come up as going to Anerley

This one just takes the P, I mean is it really too difficult to make the text slightly smaller and fit in the missing O? It is possible to display text on two separate lines so making the text smaller shouldn't be that much different. Other ones that aren't as annoying: "So'ton Ctl" and "Portsm Hbr"

If it can do two lines, that seems more sensible. Surely people won't be that far away from the side of the train on most platforms anyway.

While not absurd, a few PIS displays around East Croydon last week had "Please Disregard Information On This Screen".

Surely it'd be easier to turn the screen off or cover it completely?

The "London Waterloo" display is on two lines, and that is before you add the "via Richmond", "via Basingstoke" and "stopping service" qualifiers that can appear in some cases. All easy to read (with the via points being ever so slightly bold) unlike the horror show that is the Southern Electrostar side display (smaller and the destination scrolling even when it fits, the top line taken up by the coach number). Thankfully the side displays don't have "Lon W'loo" like on the front :D

People at City Thameslink going north must wonder where 'Electrostar' is and in reverse at Farringdon!

I am amazed that Bombardier couldn't design things so during the power change, it would be possible to keep the information system showing the usual information without being interrupted. It's not as if all power is lost. Even having it powered for say 10-15 seconds before cutting out (in the event of a failed change, and to save draining the batteries for more essential things like lighting) would have kept it going, no?
