journey check shows 19.35 Chester-Euston calling Stafford, Lichfield, Tamworth, Nuneaton and the 20.30 Euston-Preston at Nuneaton.
;
I can't spot any reason for this - anyone know why.
;
The 19.30 Euston was also calling at Stafford, but that isn't all that unusual if passengers are delayed into Birmingham and miss the 17.43 ex Euston there.

1840 Euston to Manchester P was unable to call at Tamworth and Lichfield TV due to a freight train failure.

Passengers were taken to Stafford to be returned on the Chester train with stop orders for Lichfield TV and Tamworth.

However due to the signaller routing the train fast line the Chester train ran non stop to an additional stop at Nuneaton to allow the Tamworth and Lichfield TV passengers off to catch 2030 Euston to Preston train which called at Nuneaton additionally.

What a catalogue of errors! :) I bet those passengers were very frustrated.

Why on earth weren't passengers directed to the 18:49 London Midland departure? Far quicker than double-backing via Stafford.

Better yet, why not revert the 18:40 back to being non-stop to Crewe, so that the truly long distance passengers on the 18:40 can enjoy some semblance of punctuality?

If the 18.40 Virgin departure wasn't able to stop at Tamworth why would the 18:49 London Midland departure be able to stop?

Because you would expect the freight train to have been shifted by the time of the 18:49's slightly later arrival, allowing it to call, as it in fact did?

You can't make any assumptions when a freight is in trouble. I am guessing from its later delay that it either detached or rectified something at Stafford.
;
More to the point if the driver had a stop order why didn't he query the route at Lichfield North?
